The most powerful line in all of SW. It's never brought up again & is easily forgotten....somehow. Everyone forgets this simple line, as no one ever brings it up. Ever. All the bashing, all the berating...mention midichlorians and people lose their minds, hiding a real lesson of life.

But beneath the Phantom Menace is a phantom panacea, hidden, occult - that you get out of life what you put into it.
I doubt Anakin/Vader thinks about it again...ever. He, like [most of] the audience, must've doubted Qui-Gon.

I watched this scene when I was high a few weeks ago. It totally took me by surprise. I was like, "Whoa, shit, that's deep!!"

This might actually be Qui-Gon’s most important lesson. It’s because the Jedi don’t seek focus. They seek openness, allowing them to see the bigger picture in its entirety and act from there. The Sith, using strong emotions, seek focus, causing them to look towards one thing, often apart of something bigger, often in a selfish light. Focus isn’t a bad thing, but it can be dangerous. That’s part of the reason for the open-mindedness of a Jedi and its importance.
It’s clear Anakin had forgotten, as later history would tell us. I don’t blame him either, cause other than the fact that Anakin was young, what Qui-Gon says here seems subtle at first. Perhaps if Anakin remembered, he’d have started to think something really was off about the Chancellor just a little sooner, enough that perhaps his interference with the Force’s will as a Sith Lord would have potentially failed.

95% of people have no focus, other than for the minute at hand. They struggle through their working lives and retire with little to nothing, which is an immensely high price to pay for not determining and owning focus.
