Wario was originally intended to be German but early on was switched to Italian, as Charles gave him an Italian accent in the localized version of Mario Kart 64.

If I recall Wario was German but then got an "Italian" accent later on "Am-a Wario Am-a gonna win!"

You can tell that the person writing the skit asked a gamer buddy about what happens in the Mario games and the bundled that with the one time they played Mario Kart Wii for the jokes in this sketch. It’s also very apparent that pretty much no one in the sketch has actually played a substantial amount of Mario games to even know what they’re parodying

Wario is technically the richest person in the mushroom kingdom, he lives in a castle filled with gems and gold galore, as seen in wario world on the gamecube, so it only makes sense that one of the richest humans plays him
