The Last Christmas of the Romanovs

Christmas 1917 would be the last for the Romanov family. Isolated from the world, exiled in Siberia, they lived the joy of the feast of love, distributing gifts to the members of their staff that they had made themselves. Under house arrest and closely guarded, they were able to organize a traditional Christmas that was in many ways their closest family holiday.

This video is produced as part of the project for the book "The Romanov Royal Martyrs”, which is an impressive 512-page book, featuring nearly 200 black & white photographs, and a 56-page photo insert of more than 80 high-quality images, colorized by the acclaimed Russian artist Olga Shirnina (Klimbim) and appearing here in print for the first time.

Forget for a moment that they're Royals. All I see that a beautiful family was uprooted for ever. May their souls rest in peace.

They were a beautiful family. Such a very sad story...brings tears to my eyes... Russia was very near to my family's home in 🇵🇱Poland.

Can’t help but shed a tear watching this and other stories about those closest to the family. They seem like really good people. Not just as royalty but as simple human being. You can not help but fall inlove with them. Can’t imagine the trauma felt by the 2 tutors who survived the killing just because they are not Russian. Thank you so much for sharing their stories.

Here, in Romania, the Nicolai Tzar and his family are respected like saints, and we have icons of them in churches. We also have the Brâncoveanu family with a similar story-who lived in 16 century.

One allways can brag about loving his country and people but in the sacrifice of life , they have shown the world the meaning of true love, that of a Mother and Father for their own children . They will live for ever in the Soul of Russia.

I have been following the Romanovs since I was 16 and still at school and I am 46 now. I love the Romanovs they were such a wonderful family and what interesting characters they were! I have been to Russia 3 times and on the last trip Mum and I went to Tobolsk (We started in St Petersburg then went to Moscow and Yekaterinburg via Tobolsk) and it was lovely seeing Tobolsk in this video, it brought back so many memories. We went inside the Governor's mansion where the Romanovs lived and it's a really nice tribute and museum to them now. The whole time we were there I was thinking "I can't believe that I'm actually in this building where the Romanovs lived!" and we didn't have a guide showing us round so I was showing Mum like "This is where the Grand Duchesses slept, this is the famous stairs that Tsarevich Alexei slid down etc etc" It was a really, really interesting place to visit and I heartily recommend it.

We had arrived in Tobolsk by train and we looked round Tobolsk and it's very nice it is especially the Kremlin (how many people know that Tobolsk has it's own Kremlin?) which we had a really good look around and we were getting thirsty (it was the middle of summer) so there was this eatery place in the Kremlin so we went in there but they were full but get this they gave us both a drink "on the house" and the staff were so nice and helpful that the next day before we caught the train to Yekaterinburg we went back there and had a slap-up meal (I'm sure I had Pelmeni which is my favourite Russian dish), we had a lovely time there with the staff who all spoke perfect English. We're from Leicester in England and when we told them this one of them named the whole Leicester City Football squad! We would go to Tobolsk again. I still can't believe we've been there into the Governor's mansion it was very surreal but wonderful.

I wish somebody could have saved the Imperial family, they were lovely people. I hope they are resting in peace ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤xxx

Shameful that their own family in England refused them asylum. Absolutely shameful. They'll never live that down.

Before YouTube and even before internet I used to love 💕 Russian History specially that concerning the royal family. There was no important and no abundant information which always made me feel disappointed, but now I'm very happy to see and enjoy so many videos about the Romanovs. Thanks so much for producing and sharing these master pieces. Greetings from Mexico. 🤓
