Man, it would be amazing if there were a scene of a stormtrooper uprising where they take off their helmets and we see the faces of men and women who have, up to this point, been faceless. For me that would be as much payoff as the Skywalker story ending.

I like your idea of a massive revolt. I also think that a really nice final arc for him would be that, maybe even swaying Phasma, the one training him to kill.

A fun meme, a cool character, but it should have been Phasma really. And I am still dissapointed Rian didn't use that deleted scene because it would have been perfect.

And I do like that B subplot idea.

That's actually a pretty cool idea. I can picture it being mirror like at the end of the Clone Wars with Order 66. But this time instead of the troopers turning on the good guys. They're turning on the bad guys.

"Lost Stars" and "Rebels" (with Kallus) both had looks under the hood of Imperials, complete with defections. "Battlefront EA 2" and "Inferno Squad" were similar. "Twilight Company" has a POV from a local stormtrooper on Sullust whose just trying to make her planet a better place. "Resistance" seems to have at least two good-ish former Imperial characters (Captain Doza and the Ace with the modified TIE). "Rogue One" had Bohdi and Galen Erso. "Solo" gave us a brief look at the joys of the Imperial Army.

And, of course, "The Clone Wars" had numerous episodes, arcs and characters devoted to looking at this subject, most notably "Rookies", Umbara, "The Deserter, " the Bio-chips arc and Slick.

So yeah. Canon has looked into this a LOT.

Except, outside Finn, they’ve made no effort to make us think of the stormtroopers as sympathetic. Not in the sequels anyway. Even Finn kills his Trooper Brethren without a second thought.

That’s the problem though, the stormtroopers are treated as droids. The moment Finn rebels he gleefully slaughters his former comrades. Another point is that the only “good stormtroopers” are the ones that defect. I liked seeing the “good guys” of the empire in From a Certain Point of View, and I feel like those stories humanized them way more than the sequels did

Now that you said it, it would be cool to see stormtroopers fighting alongside droids for their freedom. It would be powerful, considering everything that happened during the clone wars.

I would really want to see Resistance troopers Vs First order Storm stormtroopers as we have not seen that in the Sequals yet

Finn is my favorite character of sequel trilogy also i wouldn't be surprised he calls upon his allies Stormtroopers within the First Order

I really dig that idea, hopefully it happens in the film, and if not maybe in a book or comic (maybe in a future season of Resistance?)

I've been wanting to see it since 7. I've been shouting about it since 8.

I'll be ecstatic as 💩 if I see it in 9.

I'm so glad to see a video finally talking about this the way that I've been envisioning it all this time. I've brought it up a few times in previous comments on your videos but it's easy to get buried in here, so I always assumed that either no one ever saw them or they simply didn't care all that much if they did.

Stormtroopers need some of that good ole' Star Wars Redemption Love! After seeing the extended Finn & Phasma scene in TLJ's bonus features I've been more optimistic than ever for some poetic justice for Order 66, & Finn would absolutely be the one guy who could help make that happen. Why the most powerful moment in that entire sequence & scene was ultimately cut from the final film is beyond me, but my guess is that it either gave away too much too soon -OR- instead might have set something up that fans could get all specu-nuts about but Rian & the creatives knew ultimately would't be paid off by the end of the saga.

After establishing that assessment, though, all one really needs to do is put both outcomes through a quick "Reality Level Check". It goes like this:

Of the two conclusions, which one seems like a more Realistic Concern that would be equally shared by Rian and the Lucasfilm team?

a) Avoiding Spoilers
b) Paying Off Plot/Story Points

My Final Totally Speculative Conclusion: We're Getting a Stormtrooper Uprising, Y'all!!

In the state that the New Republic & the Resistance will likely still be in to some degree, a Stormtrooper Uprising may very well be The Last and Only Hope the galaxy has left.

I'm Pumped... but not TOO Pumped. I could be wrong all along. Who Knows?

I'd love to see something like a faction of Imperials, still loyal to the old Empire and its ways getting into skirmishes with the First Order. Does that happen in the books or comics at all? I'm assuming not every (former) Imperial admiral, governor, and warlord would just drop what they're doing and take sides with the FO. Possible plot twist for EP9 - what's left of the Resistance is being hunted down by the FO and for whatever hand wavey reason, an oldschool Imperial fleet appears out of hyperspace and helps them. I dunno, it'd be fun to see on screen.

Snoke and Phasma’s deaths put the first order in a really bad position. Not only have they lost their leadership and means of training more soldiers, but they are also now lead by an angsty teen (Kylo) and an angry ginger space nazi (Hux), both of which hate each other, and I presume one of which will kill the other.

"Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper?"

With all the focus on Rey's back story, what if Finn is the one with the interesting back story? It seemed a little convenient to me that he defected so easily.

I'd say hell yes, this is a great idea - but I don't know if it needs to be in 9 specifically. I think if 9 is attempting to wrap up the Skywalker storyline, they need to leave space for the next trilogy, and this is a very compelling idea and good reason to keep Finn alive and active. If he's not force sensitive, that would be a great B plot for the next series if they decide not to resolve the Second Galactic Civil War right away. Good video, thanks for your work!
