under his hi-hat is actually a radia cup chime (9"), and its a 8 hhx splash and a 12 hhx. and hes not using the max stax low. the max stax low is 12 inches, so hes got a max stax he made by combining two 14" cymbals

i'm afraid that as many people have pointed out, it is in fact the 'best bits' of several takes, (not quite) seamlessly put together to form the whole song. if you look closely you can see the cuts.

but that takes nothing away from blake, it would take about a billion years to try and nail a song this long, this complicated in one take. he plays the stuff pretty flawlessly live, but when you can afford to be a perfectionist in the studio, then you might as well be one.

I have a horrible habit of singing with my headphones in and playing air-instruments on the bus on the way to Uni or work.

Blake is directly responsible for making me play air drums on the bus; using my hands on my thighs for hi-hats, cymbals, snare and toms and doing heel-toe slaps on the seat in front of me for the savage double bass.

Fuck yeah I love air-drumming!

I'm a good drummer, but being able to keep pace with your hi hat foot has always been a hurdle I could never get the hold of on complicated beats. This is amazing.
