When I was a kid I always had this yearning that we could be a Nielsen family. You know, the people whose use are recorded as part of a national survey to decide what shows to keep and what shows get cancelled. I was always enormously upset at finding really good shows getting cancelled after a short span and absolute dwreck being retained for years upon years upon years.
I grew up in small town America and only went to live in the big city when I was well into my thirties. So as you can imagine this was an Impossible Dream.

I moved back to small-town America, where I now live in Lancaster County. That is also known as God's country, you know, Food-Growing country. We had a nice fairly widescreen TV and we were watching this that and the other but once on the Emmys they had a horribly sacrilegious song that was introduced with the assistance of Annie Lennox.... I turned to my wife and I said, "THIS is what you wanted to see?"
We never turned that TV on again.
Couple weeks later the cable lapsed.

A month later I took the TV to the recycling place where they disposed of it appropriately. Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.

Then, last summer, some dude Rings the door. I could not make out his ethnicity. He was not white, but I couldn't be sure if he was Asian, black, Hispanic, or Pacific Islander or who-knows-what. He was a nice enough fellow.

you've probably guessed what I'm going to tell you.

he wanted to know if we wanted to be a Nielsen family.

my thinking is that they must have seen that we moved to Lancaster County from New York City where I had lived for 16 years in Exile. my wife was born there.

you may imagine my emotions upon being tagged as a Nielsen representative.

I just told him simply, we got disgusted with the direct we were seeing on the TV so we turned off the cable and threw it away 3 years before he saw me. I suggested that he go to the people next door who have a big crazy antique-looking antenna on their roof.

I just look at everything on my cell phone. YouTube videos. I hear news on the radio. And sometimes I'll find a newspaper laying somewhere and read it. even so the newspapers always piss me off because they are relentlessly leftist in viewpoint.

and I'm pretty happy leaving the lamestream Legacy Media to their own devices. Let them drown in their own filth.
