This is actually kind of funny to watch. The growling is like talking, much like wolves as pets. It's easy to mistake by sound, but in contrast the body language is happy.

Cute. I love chatty cats. Wish I had a big home so I could have huge cats like that. People misunderstand when they hiss. He's communicating that he doesn't appreciate the camera in his face.
