A Closer Look: Displays

In a Sim Racing setup, a good display is worth its weight in gold. To consider, you could have the best setup around, but without a solid display, it can detract from the whole experience.

I decided to take a closer look at the different displays that are available to racers, including Single Monitor, Triple Screens, and Virtual Reality.

Damn my brother, this channel gets better every new video! Keep up the good work and respect, because Youtube nowadays is really rough. Good that simracers are some of the best dudes out there and not much into criticizing one's work. Again, keep it up, proud of you!

Very clear and easy explained. Thumbs up.
I am racing online for over 16 years and still using a signel monitor. Triples would bo a better job as it gives you the most immersion. VR is not there yet. I tried it and I was not impressed. Maybe because I race for real too and compare it with that but the pixelation was a major issue. Also, it was hard to judge distance, objects not being cristal clear, ... it was not for me atm.

I use 2 of the mentioned setups

1. 49" 4K Monitor just in the distance of my pedals, perfectly mounted, so that the wheel has the 1:1 size to my wheel.
2. oculus rift cv1 - since I'm using it, my laptimes getting better on every track.

The 49er is actually only there to do some setups and testdrives. In iRacing that's much easier done, also because of the better resolution of the 4K monitor

With the next generation of VR this resolution will increased, that's for sure - and at a reasonable price i would buy it without a doubt.
Compared to the Monitor the 600€ for the rift where not even 60% of the price and the fun factor inside the game is so much greater.

Love my rift. I don't have the room for triples, vr is also cheaper than a nice set of triples. VR also gives you a great sense of 3D.

Gostei do video, depois faz um comparativo de uma ultrawide vs 3 monitores. Voce nao disse qual placa gráfica substituiu sua GTX 970

I am using a single screen configuration using a TV of 40", the experience is not so good because I am able to see those big pixels on the screen. So, probably I will build a new configuration using three Full HD monitors of 23".

I'm looking into setting up a PC as I'm limited to Assetto Corsa, Project Cars, Dirt Rally, F12016 with my PS4.

The monitor issue is something that has been holding me back primarily because I want HDR monitors! The new Grand Turismo is going to support HDR in 4K and I'm sure will look amazing, however when I want to play something more realistic, a triple screen set up looks ideal for me. So I think I'm waiting for HDR PC monitors to drop in price and then go for the triples, but i'm getting really impatient!

i use a 2560x1080 ultra wide 35 inch at 144hz, i also have an htc vive and i have the same issue with the low resolution but it is so immersive that it adds that extra bit of realism even with worse looking graphics. i also use a trackir5 which helps with non vr games. current rig is fanatec v2.5 wheel base, v3 pedals, shifter and handbrake are fanatec also on the obutto revolution. nice video.

I´m using a 4k-Samsung 55"-TV in about 25 inch distance and loving it, but it should be curved and my one isn´t. But now i could get one for 700 Euros (instead of 1300 a year ago) and i think of switching. 4k means no more than 60 fps/Hz possible and v-Sync should be on, but the graphics-quality is amazing and stable 60 fps is fine for me. Triples have it´s advantages, but two major issues: Monitor-frames just aren´t there in reality and with smaller size they are nearly always in your apex plus the narrow vFOV, so you can always see your surrounding behind the setup. I´m running about 90° hFOV and 60° vFOV which is enough to fill the main focus, but i need a spotter or Helicorsa to compensate the smaller hFOV. VR is certainly the future when it get´s enough pixel-density and software-support, but possible nausea, unable to see your keyboard, button-box, shifter, drinks, e-cigarette (in my case), dealing with sweat all year and higher stress for the eyes. And really don´t want to see the fake steering-wheel and driver arms anymore and my favorite sim is Automobilista. All affordable solutions have (a lot of) positive and negative aspects today.

I went from one single screen to VR but I don't think I would buy triples it would cost me over a 1000 to get the monitors and a extra video card. I would agree tho if people can wait till next generation of VR headsets come out that would be best, the resolution is not there yet but its so damn immersive lol

I bought VR and returned it in 1 week. I could not deal with the bad resolution. I'm still using a single screen with does fine. iracing, project cars and other titles I have no issues with. I don't have room for triples. So hoping in the future VR screens will be better.

Just tried Asetto Corsa with the Oculus and I was blown away. You definitely notice the screen door effect though. WAAAY too expensive at this point but some day I'll be using VR for sure

If I'm going for a single monitor, how big should that monitor be?

I have a 32 in. screen on my setup but I can have up to a 55 in. single screen/t.v./monitor or 3- 24 in. screens/t.v./monitors on it. But as of now I don't have the bigger screen or a computer with the power to run triples nor have I ever been on a setup that did, so I can't comment on those but I would like too.... someday ....sometime in the future .

What about a wide screen curved monitor

I use a single monitor with trackir.  gives me the resolution and the head tracking like vr.  not as all immersive as vr, but way cheaper
