Alyssa was the singer of the Canadian band The agonist, before she became the frontwoman for Arch enemy, foillowing in the footsteps of the iconic Angela Gossow. Angela manages the band these days and only very occasionally steps on the stage. You can check out "Nemesis" by archenemy. there are live versions with both Angela en Alyssa. For more current archenemy, i recommend "the eagle flies alone". My favorite is "the watcher", especially if you want a straight into the deep end kind of experience :-). great reaction and see you next time.

Among Metal-Heads, Alissa is known as 'The Blue Queen'. Simone has been FAMOUS for her Red hair. I think it's really fun that they played a Red-Vs-Blue here... :D

Alissa White-Gluz is one of a few women in metal who have developed massive vocal tool kits and the ability to alter style as required by the music. She is predominantly a growl singer but she has terrific cleans, and has even been known to engage in opera style. I love that distortion as a texture can be used the same as pitch and tone.

For her principal band - Arch Enemy - a good starting place might be "Handshake with Hell" which does feature mixed vocals (rare for this band) or one of their more popular songs "The Eagle Flies Alone." Their latest track "Dream Stealer" is very very heavy and all growling (although the depth/intensity/texture does vary a lot - but still growls) so maybe not the best introduction song.

Alissa is known for her heavy growls yet she can sing very well clean as well. Alissa was once in Kamalot band and when Anette the second vocalist from Nightwish was rushed to Hospital she was one of the vocalist that stepped Forward to help Nightwish until they called upon Floor. Alissa is Canadian. All these Ladies are good friends and help each other when needed. One thing suprises me is why hasn't Alissa even been on one of Arjens projects like Star one or Ayreon?. Unless someone knows she has i've never seen it?.

@Coach&Mrs: The circle is closing - Alissa is the lead vocalist of Arch Enemy, a melodic death metal band from Sweden. They are fantastic and yes, it's Alissa's harsh vocals. Btw. the song was written by Ayreon 😂. My first time listening to Alissa was watching "The Denver debacle" of Nightwish in 2012. It was the concert Anette got ill and Alissa and Elize Ryd (both Kamelot and supporting act) jumped into Nightwish doing the concert with 40min of preparation. IMO the concert was nuts, because it was a once in a lifetime experience. Nightwish with Alissa and Elize doing a fan Karaoke live. Anette never came back, she was replaced by Floor Jansen. So if you ever have the time - please watch the NW documentary "Learn the setlist in 48 hours". But just 4 u! to get an idea of the beginning of Floor Jansen being NW. So Alissa has a fantastic clear voice (you've heard at this song). Same with Elize Ryd. For Arch Enemy - I think the signature song is "Handshake with Hell". But please expect real hard stuff. It is great and it is epic.

I enjoyed that one. Simone is great and I've heard of Alissa, but never listened to her stuff. Will be doing that when I have the chance.
Don't worry Coach, we all lose it when we have had "the good food".

Her name is pronounced See-moan-uh Sea-mons. Yeah, the e at the end of her first name is actually pronounced and the emphasis is on the middle syllable 😉 I just got this album on vinyl. It's awesome and I can recommend R.E.D. as well. My fave from the album

Alissa is a really good singer too, a bit much harsh vocals for my taste in Arch Enemy. Recommend you give them a try, maby an Arch Enemy fan should give you a good recommendation to start with.

Hoping for more Simone And Epica 😁.

Two beautiful voices, wonderful harmony, then... wow! I was not expecting that growly rock voice at all!
Not a fan of the flashing lights which force me to look away, so I'm afraid I missed a lot of the visuals, am I right that it looked as though they were on a spaceship?

Interesting vocalisation. I know very little of Arch Enemy. The harsh vocals are called growls. A lot of people who don't like these type of vocals call them Cookie Monster vocals.

As you probably know, Epica also uses harsh vocals in many of their songs (sung by Mark Jannsen). Simone has done a fantastic job with this album in capturing her sound from Epica, her work with Aryeon, as well as her own unique sound.
The song Aeterna sounds very much like a mix of the two bands. In Love We Rust is a more ballad style and this one is full out metal.
The addition of Alissa adds another dimension to the sound. If you want to hear Alissa's harsh vocals mixed with her cleans in her own band, listen to Handshake With Hell by Arch Enemy. She typically only sings harsh vocals in AE, They are a melodic death metal band and have always used primarily harsh sounds. It's a learned experience, but if you listen enough, you come to see how musically complex it is.
