As I continue my "learn to sing" journey I am learning that my mental state of mind has a huge effect on my singing.

Four years into my singing adventure, this video speaks volumes. So many truths. Best of all is the anecdote of Pavarotti taking 10 years to sing F4. It so happens that today I was practicing as I always love to do, practicing a dozen or so of my 50 favorite tunes ranging from Elton John to Billy Squier. As I often do, I stopped and worked on notes in several songs and when I checked my pitch pipe and they were all F4! I know your videos will always speak to me, and I thank you!

Thanks for the video, sir! I used to be a professional singer, even playing the role of Whitney Houston at one point. I then suffered trauma, so a year later I lost my voice because I was so stressed. My speaking voice sounds like I was smoking 40 cigarettes per day. Needless to say that I stopped singing because the joy in it had gone. I have been practising everyday now with your exercises and a few others. Will I ever get my voice back to being really good with lots of practise and steaming every night?

There is a magic bullet exercise, but it takes a long time to build up your voice with it. Descending whistle register from around C5 to the bottom of your range. It can be used as a warm up, as well. Helps you condition breath support, stretches your vocal ligament, makes your voice less strained, and increases your range. It is not taught in many places, and is very easy to do incorrectly. But, it works. It increased my vocal power and clarity by 25% in 2 months.

Got a question it’s off topic, how often should singers change up their warm up routine? I picture singing like working out every time I go into singing

Great video! So, I’m about the same age as you are. Do you have any advice for us singers as we get older? The biggest thing I have found is that I need to sing more often, daily is best but at least a few times a week. And I need to warm up more than I used to.

Hi, is it normal after 1-1:30 hour of singing to fatigue a little, meaning lose a little adduction of the high notes(be a little breathy at your onset) or low notes? But recovering after 2 hours of rest?Is this normal?I dont pull chest, i mostly use mix.Thanks.
