This song was released 53 years ago. I can still sing almost every lyric. Freaky.

I saw the Cowsills around 1972. They were playing Roosevelt High School auditorium. Their father (and road manager) was fussing around hooking up a rather cheap Sure P.A. system they had rented from one of the music shops. "Hair" and others had already been hits. But the crowd was not big. It was under-promoted. I was surprised how few attended. The older brother who sings this was very confident and able. They were pros. I remember Susan (and boy was I charmed) as spirited and vivacious up there. The mother was there too. I couldn't tell at the time, but the young Cowsill drummer was no slouch on drums, which you can hear here. This was always a delightful song to me, and the album carrying this song was the first LP I ever got. We tried to go into one of the hallways and meet them on their break. Unfortunately we were too shy. They probably would have given us autographs and appreciated the fan attention. But I remember glimpsing one of the kids hands -- I think the drummer -- inside the break room holding a bottle of Seven-Up.

The Cowsills impressed me as a kid, their 1st album was quite the masterpiece to look back on, as the albums got poppier the first album had so much mature emotions written and performed by so young a group. I'm so glad I had that chance to hear and enjoy them, because when I then heard Led Zeppelin I and Deep Purple "In Rock", I converted liked a zombie over to that sound, BUT I never gave up my Cowsills vinyl. R.I.P. Barbara, Bill, Barry, and Richard; you're missed.
