I was on an offshore drilling rig off the coast of Angola the first time I heard this song. In 45 seconds I reduced to tears. Back in 2000, my father lost his battle with his demon and died of cirrhosis. Ever since that time, I stayed angry at him for the torment his alcohol abuse inflicted on his family. This song slapped my face and made me realize that nothing positive was coming from me holding on to that anger for decades and understanding that none of us is without imperfections. My family deserves better. I forgive you dad!

My dad was an imperfect man, with an imperfect son. The line "I know your mistakes and you know mine" hits me hard. My dad died in hospice or cancer, and I was fortunate enough to be by his side when he did, and this song speaks to me like nothing else, like it was written just for us.
