NATO has signed a $1 billion contract to modernise the AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) fleet, ensuring that it will continue to support the Alliance’s missions to 2035.

Often referred to as NATO’s ”eyes in the sky”, the Boeing E-3A AWACS aircraft provide the Alliance with air surveillance, airborne early warning control, command and control, battle space management and communications. The fleet of 14 AWACS aircraft are based in Geilenkirchen, Germany. They provide support to a wide range of missions, including air policing, fighter control, airspace control, counter-terrorism, search and rescue, crisis response and maritime operations.

Interesting video, BUT you really need to make the scenes longer. Some of these information "pieces" are shown too shortly, I had to rewind a few times.

Thanks for giving it in metric only. Noe I gotta think "ok a meter is a little longer than a yard...3 meters is about 10 feet....The diameter of the antenna is 9.1 meters...3 meters is 10 feet, so multiply by 3 = a little more than 30 feet?"

Why do these aircraft look familiar to me? I remember something about them on the news in the 80s.

I have a feeling that this aircraft is quite an easy target for decent ground to air missiles
Am I wrong?
Moreover its Radar emissions should make it visible from long distance like 100 km away
Has it been used also in Ukraine?
That would be an acid test
