According to your Real Estate Price Appreciation chart, if you bought a $300K house in 2012 it would be worth ~$500K today. Based on that same timeframe, a $300K investment in bitcoin back in 2012 would result in a BTC bag so large that it defies comprehension. _DO NOT_ waste money on real estate – the "tax deduction" on property taxes and mortgage interest doesn't even come close to closing the gap on the bitcoin gains that lie ahead of us, and that's without getting into the issues of property maintenance, insurance, and other liabilities. Yes, "eveyone needs a castle" so _rent your castle_ and continue buying and HODLING the hardest, most portable asset known to man!

writing off interest and taxes on real estate is pretty much a no-go thing anymore. You can only do it if you can itemize above the standard deduction which is like $30k for Married filing Jointly. For you to be able to write off those costs in other scenarios the amount you'd be spending on your house payment would be an insane portion of your income. When the standard deduction goes up itemized tax items go away.

FYI: it’s a tax deduction not a credit. A tax credit is a dollar for dollar reduction in your income tax bill. A deduction reduces your taxable income basis.
