A newly designed DIY intubation shield allows for an extra barrier of protection for healthcare providers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

VIDEO DEMONSTRATION: No Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was used in this video which is for demonstration purposes only. PPE would be in use in real life situations in conjunction with the device.

Designed to match the width of a standard gurney, this highly mobile COVID-19 barrier is made of disposable plastic and PVC materials. Each unit takes less than 45 minutes to complete construction. This equipment is an economical solution, sourced with easily accessible materials and can be added to enhance the safety of caregivers in many areas.

The C-19 Intubation Shield is an idea brought forth by John Lewis, ACMH Hospital President and CEO with engineering input from Jason Orton, Pre-hospital Care Services Coordinator and manufactured by ACMH Carpenter Trevor Hawley. The ACMH Covid-19 team works to ensure proper care of patients and implements safety protocols for staff. This new apparatus is being put to use in the ACMH Emergency Department, ICU, telemetry and designated corona treatment areas.
