Commodore Amiga A1200 Controller Port Repair / FDD Service / ExpMem Error

A short video looking at an Amiga 1200 belonging to William (The nice chap that donated the Atari Falcon to the channel!).

In this video I fix a problem with a direction not working on the joystick port, service the FDD and clean up an expansion card.

I didn't talk about those loose screws - one was from the row of 3 on the underside of the front, and it went back in fine! The other one I sent back inside a bag as I couldnt see anywhere for it to go.

Nice easy fix on the joystick. I hate the trap door on the A1200, it's a pain to get boards in and out of.

Oh the keys - should have seen this video end of last summer when I retrobrighted my A600 - had the same problems on the keys, and I even used liquid peroxide and mounted the keys to a 3d printed grid holder, so that all of them where perfectly aligned to the sun. While the white keys came out good (and the case, too) the dark keys got super blotchy, exactly like these.

Huge thanks, got to 9 mins into the video and you let us all know that amigapcb exists and I went off to that, found my issue fairly fast, I had lost movement on the mouse ball and joystick axis', turned out to be a fault on the VCC 5v lines to pin 7 on CN1 and 2, traced it back to the C362 (220nf) and C352 (220nf)caps, both short despite 5v showing on pin 7 on both CN1 and 2, goes to show you should never trust VCC caps thanks again :-)

29:02 Yes, that's correct. 1 meg is used for "maprom" feature.

Those "spikes" on the solder might hint to too hot an iron when soldering. I find it's better to use leaded solder and start with a lower temp and only increase if you don't seem to have enough heat. A lot of people seem so start way hotter than necessary. Maybe it's because of all the recommendations for lead free solder?

Im just curious, why do we cover up the ROM labels these days was there a copyright or property rights issue at some point?

As for the keycaps showing retrobright issue, there have been new keycaps available, so if they are still available then they can be replaced.

It is a time of Galactic civil war. Rebels, striking from a secret base, have destroyed the Empire’s only Amiga 4000 prototype. In response, the Empire has sent out probe droids to find GadgetUK164 so he can fix their computer; without it, the Death Star is just a big paperweight. 🤣😂

That type of marbling effect is caused by the usage of h2o2 cream. I've had ZERO failed attempts with keycaps after I switched to 14% liquid h2o2. Just place the keycaps in a zip lock bag and let the UV do it's business.
