Railway tracks fast scanning using Keyence line-scan cameras

This year is really rich in interesting and courious applications. Today we prepared a short video from the project to check the railway tracks.
Even the rails are wearing out and it is therefore necessary to check their condition. The inspection is done by using line-scan cameras that capture every 0,5 mm of the surface up to speed of 120 km/h.
To achieve such a speed, the cameras have to shoot up to 17,000 times in the blink of an eye. The duration of the exposure in this case is 2 micro seconds (i.e. 0.000002 seconds).
To ensure proper lighting was a challenge. We have developed specially powerful lighting, in a non-standard size, with a length of 2 meters which provides proper conditions to all used cameras in same time.
