Leica m3 and Aires 35 iiic side by side
Comparison.

These two cameras need no introduction.

Leica m3 DS c1955

&

Aires iiic 45mm f1.9 fixed coral lens. c1957 (Japanese M3)

(Side by side comparison)

The weight and dimension are
comparable.

pros and cons.

Aires 35 iiic

Pros.
Built like a tank.
The trimming viewfinder design is
big and very useful for framing.
Amazing Coral lens!
Affordable

Cons.

To be expected, rangefinder patch is not comparable to M3 (no rangefinder is, then or now)
Finding one in good condition is getting harder to come by.

Leica M3

Pros.
Stellar built quality!
The rangefinder design and usability is in its own class, nice, big and clear.
A well thought out design, no distractions.

Cons.
The current trend for this camera is crazy expensive!

Both of these classic cameras are a pleasure to shoot, the M3 was the inspiration for the Aires iiic, this is obvious.

The Aires 35 iiic was well designed in terms of usability.

The Japanese designer had designed the bottom plate of this model to come off just like the M3, it enabled the use of reloadable cassette.

I use mine with a Leica’s ixmoo. The bottom plate allowed opening and closing of the cassette.

Hope you find value in this comparison!

Happy shooting!

Until next time.

Nice short, but when you have a fixed lens camera it’s always great to have one of the sample photos with it being wide open
