Little Bluestem - Native/Ornamental Grass

The plant’s botanical name is Schizachyrium scoparium, formerly known as Andropogon scoparium.

Seasonally, the plant changes from a blue/green color to a vibrant orange fall color which is maintained through the winter months until the plant begins to regenerate new growth as soil temperatures increase.

If you ever wonder “what’s that orange grass?”, it’s a good chance the answer is Little Bluestem.

It grows approximately 24-36” tall with a root system which can reach 5-8’ deep.
