Fun fact:
The red eyes symbolize when the animatronics are online and in "attack mode".
Meanwhile, the black void with the white dot symbolizes when the animatronics are possessed.
Since the kids hadn't possessed their host animatronic bodies fully, it would make sense for Afton to control them and set them to "attack mode".

There was a theory that the reason the eyes were red was because the animatronics were being controlled by William Afton. The black eyes with a white dot mean that the animatronics are being controlled by the souls of the children killed by Afton. But then the completely black eyes mean that the souls have been freed, as seen by the ending from one of the games.

the reason for the red eyes is because (canon btw) william afton wanted the animatronics to have an “attack mode” and when they’re in this mode their eyes turn red. the white dots are when the animatronics are being overcome by the child that possesses it.

I feel like the red eyes are possibly one of those things they do in the trailer that doesn’t happen in the movie itself, like they show them with red eyes as a placeholder for what’s really gonna be there

It’s just a small detail and with Scott himself working on the film chances are their doing this for a reason. I’m just happy that this movie is finnaly going to exist after so long. Also it’s not like they can just change it now, changing it would mean either having to REDO all the shots or CGI the eyes, both options would push the release date back. So in short, just be happy for what we have.

The true theory behind the red eyes is because when the animatronic eyes are a black void like color with a white dot, it means that the children's souls are still controlling them, if they're red, then they're in attack mode, so William Afton is probably still controlling them

Now hear me out, the red eyes are cannon and its similar to fnaf security breach, the red eyes are when they are being controlled and/ or in attack mode and they black eyes with white dots are when the animatronics are being controlled by the children spirits.

I think it’s because of the lighting, I’ve seen edits of the eyes as how they appear in game, and the red glow definitely help with seeing the characters in a dark environment

I would prefer black eyes with white dots, but I think the red eyes make sense, seeing as the inside lights of the animatronics eyes are red in game. I also think they’ll still be somewhat creepy when they’re in an old run-down pizzeria and chasing someone.
