I actually went to a lot of therapy due to being critical of myself, having a ficade in day to day encounters making sure to never give my mother a "shamed face" up until my early 20s.
I broke down, couldn't wake up and keep up the fake persona, I just wanted to stay in my small apartment not having to proove myself to anyone.
Decided to go to therapy and through that I learned that despite how I act that I never actually have control over someone's perception of me. I can try to manipulate their perception through a ficade but I can't control it. It was when I realized that the only thing I can control fully is myself that I finally stopped trying to be someone else.
I finally found comfort in my own skin and no longer hated myself for not being what people wanted me to be.
Gonna read the book Pewds.

Most people know the name “Dazai Osamu” from the Bungou Stray Dogs character but allow me to give a little context to the real author. Dazai Osamu is one of the big 3 classical japanese authors. His magnum opus and last book “No Longer Human” was based on Osamu’s life of constantly being shafted by the world to be quite honest. The book is almost a huge suicide note, and we see Osamu’s fall, as he would go on to drown himself after, being his first successful suicide attempt after many attempts beforehand.

" There's two sides of the coin in life. You're gonna be happy sometimes, and you're gonna be unhappy sometimes.
And you can just hope that you end up in one side more than the other.
Just because you endure a lot of pain and a lot of bad behaviour, and just because you're a good person and work really hard for the things you love, that doesn't necessarily mean happiness is some sort of reward or something that's owed to you. It doesn't work like that. That's just the state of life and the balance we all have to go through."

Shit this was strong pewds

Honestly, Pewds... After years of following your career through its ups and downs and changes and whatever... This is perhaps the best thing you've ever done. Not only are you actively increasing general interest in literature, but you're actually providing us with thoughtful, insightful, and critical reviews without flaw.

As a scholar of literature myself, you've always got the best perspective on these books. You're doing an incredible service here, man. Keep it all up, as always <3

No longer human is basically a suicide letter of the author. It's more depressing because its based on the author's life

Although I watch ALL of your videos, I have to say that the literature reviews are my favorites! It's sooo UNBELIEVABLY refreshing to see an intelligent discussion on "popular" YouTube. I can see the quiet enthusiasm you have for reading & it is inspiring...to say the least.

I don't get why Felix worries about making the video too long. Dude make it 2+ hours and I'll watch all of it

I love these kinds of videos where you show a different side of you, were you're really passionate of what you're doing, instead of playing a game of 20 straight minutes which feels like you've played only for a few minutes from you sitting down and looking at the camera talking about a book/novel you've been suggested and that you've read, I'll be looking forward to see more these kinds of videos.

I love how Felix can go from screaming at horror games to reviewing books and still have his subs enjoy it.

“A good testimony of a good writer is that if you can tell a seemingly uninteresting story and captivate your reader.”

I used this quote in my English class today and my teacher said that it is a good idea

Dude, ofc. It’s f8cking worth it making these vids. They’re awesome...for real. It’s very inspiring and influential too younger people like myself who aren’ t necessarily interested/engaged in litterateur. Keep up the good work dude. Btw. a nice book: Shantaram - Gregory David Roberts.

I love how you changed your tone as you review and describe how you felt reading Ningen Shikkaku/ No Longer Human and empathize with Dazai. That book is truly my favorite and, just like you, I really do think Japanese literature is superb
