the irony being that orel is probably the most neurodivergent kid in the entire show.

Tommy after Orel's horrible yet sadly effective speech: *He's a little confused, but he got the spirit.*

Damn I feel bad for Tommy. He's trying to show these ignorant people facts

I was in special education classes (actual ones) and oh my god, this is so accurate to how we are treated

My boyfriend was in special ed classes and I noticed that people always treated him this way for no reason. He’s a conscious person and can live independently. He only needed extra help and time with learning. It doesn’t mean he’s like incapable of understanding anything at all. He recognized how everyone treated him like a toddler

"Just because I read Dracula doesn't mean I believe in Tansylvania" is especially funny, since Transylvania, does in fact, exist. Lmao

I love how Clay is instantly prepared to send Orel to his study even though he did nothing wrong. It's as if he just expects Orel to screw up now.

Tommy is like the atheist kid whose parents still make him go to Catholic school lmfao.

As an autistic person I *heavily* see myself in Tommy. Went through a very similar experience as a child. My heart goes out to the other disabled/neurodivergent people who must deal with infantilization :'/

I hope the "special kids" work together to move out of that place when they're old enough.

this is actually a pretty good representation of how people belittle and baby nuerodivergent people, in my opinion

This episode hits reeeaaally close to home.
Thats how i was treated my whole way through school.
Im 26 now, trying to get my GED because nobody can fuck me around like a bitchy teacher. No rules and nobody to tell me otherwise…. Suddenly im doing just fine.

The teachers and school systems just dont know how to handle us.
There needs to be reform.

man if my dad had grown up in just a slightly smaller-minded town this shit woulda happened to him. i’m glad he had a science teacher that gave zero fucks, shoutout to teachers that teach facts regardless of societal pressure to do otherwise. also shoutout to special ed teachers like the ones i had who treat their kids like actual humans, i know i got lucky as heck in that department based on every adult that sent me that program’s way & the experiences of people who weren’t so fortunate ://

It takes some patience to watch a show about a town that glorifies ignorance.

Tommy def should've been in the show more, especially Season 3 he could've helped Orel come to terms with all the messed up adults and their problems

This episode fucking hits as a kid who grew up living pretty much exactly like this. Even though its obviously played for laughs its really telling of the infantilization of disabled people. So many people pity and talk down to us when we really don't need it and it gets grating as hell.

If they ever bring the show back, I’d love to see more Tommy. He’s refreshingly normal in a show like this and I love how he stood up for his friends at the end.

man, its so sad how both tommy and orel are suffering from this. tommy thinks he's dumb because he can't repeat whatever they tell him like it's the truth, and when orel has to eventually learn something that isn't memorization he'll have a tough time of it.

I went to a Christian school and was literally taught that the earth is only 6, 000 years old
