I've been tumbling glass for almost 5 yrs now and the BIGGEST MISTAKE I made was trying a load with no water. It ruined the glass and the silica dust that it creates is a breathing hazard and harder to get rid of than fine glitter. The water level that gets the best results(for me) is just below the level of the glass, then add your grit of choice. Just remember... After tumbling, DO NOT PUT THE SLURRY DOWN THE SINK, IT WILL CLOG YOUR DRAIN. I save up my sand/glass slurry and mix it with concrete to cast decorative patio bricks that literally shimmer in the sun. Good Luck and have Fun.

Thanks for not editing the failed attempts to break the bottle. It shows that things don't always go as slick as the instructions suggest. And then there's the EV factor...(Entertainment Value)   :D

I didn't read through all your comments so I don't know if anyone mention this. Not using water is not a good idea. The biggest reason is for safety. Glass dust is not good for your lungs. It also helps the process. Add enough water to cover the glass. I do this all the time using actual beach sand and it does take longer the using a carbide grit, but it works. A tip for breaking the glass. Wrap the glass in plastic, set it in a cardboard box and set the box on concrete. It will break fairly easy. Hope this helps someone.

All the energy from your hammer strikes is going into that table--look at it bounce! Take it outside on the concrete sidewalk/driveway, and you'd bust it in one hit.

I can't get over the fact that you are doing a tutorial video without reading the instructions on the equipment.

I have this rock tumbler & I haven't even opened it but this idea is so great, I'll be trying it this week! Thank you so much! I also have to thank you for not deleting your "bottle break fail". I laughed so much! If that was a priceless bottle, you know it would've broken with just a nudge LOL.

I've seen video's where they wrap stones like this with wire and make jewelry with it. These came out really nice.  TFS

Lol I think I enjoyed watching you try to break the bottle more than anything! Lol so funny! Very good video and love the outcome. But sure seems to take a long time!

I tumble glass a lot, always use water and grits..(3 stages)..
Final polish is aluminum oxide..
Than after that I roll it for 24 hours with Ivory soap... Shine shine shine!!

Loads of people have dumped their beer bottles into my back woods over the years, and I've been meaning to clean them up. This would be the perfect use for them!

No water next time? More water next time! Water is a must and you should almost cover the sand/grit/glass...

Good jumping off point. I have a rock tumbler that is missing pieces for it's actual purpose, so this could be fun. Thanks for not being scared to jump right in.

I know this video is a lil dated but starting with a 30 or 60 grit and increasing from there to the finish you desire would help too
