Frankly, Meghan and Harry want all the benefits of being royal without any of the responsibilities. And while I can't claim to have followed the story, not really being interested in royal gossip, but by what I have seen and read of what Meghan herself has said, I doubt she ever really understood what it meant to be a royal. As far as I can tell, to Meghan being royal was basically the same as being a celebrity with social privilege, and some pomp and circumstance. I don't think she understood that it was an institution that demanded a great deal of those who belonged to it, would curtail her freedom to a great extent, and was above all a job that justified having all those privileges. Harry should know better, which is why his behaviour in all this is even worse. They are both acting like spoiled selfish brats. Moving to Canada at great expense to both the British and Canadian governments.
Diana understood all this and did the work. That was not the problem for Diana. Her problem was that she was stuck in a very unhappy marriage while publicly doing her job as a royal for years. To compare Meghan with Diana is doing Diana a huge disservice.
