LIVESTREAM Talk by Tony Rolando, William Matthewson, Dan Green and Richard Devine

This is the recorded material of the Livestream. It seems there something blocking the YouTube API here at NAMM, and we cant make the Livestream work, from the Media HUB wired or wireless internet at all. It would not be a facebook live thing, its a little bit more complicated with different UDP ports, which has been blocked here.
Now the NAMM staff is trying to find out what could be the problem. Its nice from them anyway.

We know you are dissapointed as we do also. But here you can find some recorded material, and the copy of the live chat.

LET'S CONNECT!

im bummed the rest of the conversation was not included. by the end of it richard and dan convinced me that alt firmware is actually a really amazing thing. and then we talked about getting inspiration from outside of the musical instrument. it was a good conversation

We recorded the the 2nd part also, but the file has corrupted. We are looking for a recovery method to reconstruct the file because its a 0 byte .dat right now. If we succeed we will relase the last 16 minutes immediately. The chances are low but working on it. Hopefully we stop using the SD card right after the 2nd part.

Where's the rest?! Tony was going in on the MI alt-coder scene.

Rich c90so which modules got you the most excited from namm?

deefmanRoboto

Dysonanthmm.... Morphogene though Roboto looks damn fun

Rich c90Bionic Lester 2 + Argos Bleak for me

DysonantYeah, Contempt here also. Really want to hear the Bionic Lester

MD5 MusicHarvestman modules all seem a little intimidating to me, although they look like a lot of functionality per hp.

Ninstrument.com1010bitbox!

Dysonantooh, ❤ IME modules.

Dan Green*\(^o^)/*

Dysonantlol

DysonantHow many electrical engineers does it take to do a live stream?

MD5 Musiclol

Ninstrument.comLooks like he is going to offer different firmware for the same hardware. Get tired of sampling, just switch over to effects. Lots of bang for the buck there.

MD5 MusicWhen you really need your equipment to work, it never does, in my experience. 😞

MD5 Musicnot euro, but video

Dysonantheh

johnnykember(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Ninstrument.comI already have it, and if he keeps developing it, I will be buying another!

Dysonantnice

Ninstrument.comSaw the Gamma Wave 2 over at WMD. ANy more info anout it?

DysonantYeah, what is the deal with that?

Preston n.🎹

loomenwoodany news?

MAKEN0ISEgo ahead and ask some questions

loomenwoodstream is running?

MAKEN0ISEi dont think so

Ninstrument.comWill there be anymore development for the Phonogene?

Dan GreenThere won't be a stream, just texting

Rich c90Tony: in what ways do you see the Morphagene as complementing rather than replacing the Phonogene?

Glitchmachinesit's a stream of text 😀

Rich c90welcome to 2017

loomenwoodok :-)

MAKEN0ISEno more dev fo pG but we still support and produce it

Dysonant😀

Ninstrument.comOk, thankyou.

Richard DevineYo Ivo 🙌🙌🙌

GlitchmachinesYo Richard! 😃

Ninstrument.comWhat was the Moog booth like?

Rich c90Richard: which modules got you the most excited from NAMM?

MAKEN0ISEthe moog booth has only people, no sunthesizers

Analogue Zone Showroom / Synths and Studiosorry guys, our broadcaster doesnt want to work today, but we started recording the Video

Analogue Zone Showroom / Synths and StudioRichard, Dan, Tony, Willam can read the online questions

the loneliest wolfyou guys have 2 youtube urls for this broadcast, why?

Ninstrument.comDo you guys think we will be able to keep power requirements down for modules indefinitely?

the loneliest wolfwatch?v=W4Nac50v6Rw this, and 9Tly29IYoAw

MAKEN0ISEim developing something 77 leds so prob not haha

DysonantFollow up, the power requirements seem to be growing with a lot of digital modules being made now, do you see stronger, lower noise power supplies becoming more ubiquitous?

MAKEN0ISEbut most mn modules are very lowbpower already

MAKEN0ISEyes

Ninstrument.comCan you see a possible addition of 3.3V being added to the spec, or use more of the 5V rail?

Dan GreenLuckily power supplies will continue to improve too!

Rich c90Tony: do you have any plans to release the B&G versions of individual modules --- that B&G Telharmonic strongly wants to go in my B&G shared system 😉

Dan GreenI don't see 3.3V being a standard because the power rail standards are already set. There aren't extra pins for 3.3V

Ninstrument.comThank you Dan, Are we at a tipping point as far as analog effects go, is it just cheaper to go dsp now?

akts4779open source / open hardware / diy plans ?

Rich c90Dan: how did the collaboration with Matthias Puech on the tap delay come about? (Looks super fun)

MAKEN0ISEwe all prefer to generate our own 3.3v and etc...

Dan GreenNin: there are great new chips coming out as well as a growing community of diy/hackers/makers for them

Ninstrument.comYes, these are exciting times for the development communities!!!

Dan GreenAnalog always will be best at doing certain things!

Ninstrument.comThank all of you guys for being an inspiration for manufacturing in the US!

Dan GreenOpen source: yes, the Tapographic Delay will be open source

severencelooking forward to the tapographic delay, dan can the saved banks and morph be cv controlled via the tap and velocity inputs?

Dan GreenAlso our Stereo Triggered Sampler, just like the DLD and SMR are.

Rich c90Dan/Tony/William: which modules have you seen from *other* manufacturers that caught your eye as being really exciting? (Hoping you get some time to see what else is being offered!)

Dan Greenseverance: yes there is a sequencer mode, a tap trigger advances it, and there's CV for Morph

severenceawesome, thanks for the info! and all the best to everyone here

t apemWould you see it as a good or problematic development if the eurorack physical and power format became a more popular format for modules that do not have cv control?

t apemFor example, traditional effects without cv, MIDI synthesizers, 500 series type processing in eurorack format.

nin noni need a serious digital mixer for modular gigs with lots of minijacks ins and outs, with motorfaders, encoders, eqs, dynamics, effects and memories, all in a small compact package. any plan ?

William MathewsonThe power specs make it tough to do 500 in euro. The rails are low. The black market colour palette has API compatible rails

Analogue Zone Showroom / Synths and Studiowe have about 5 minutes left for questions

nin nona 32ins + 32 out minijack interface to AVS, DANTE or MADI would make my day too...

Ninstrument.com32 I.O would legitimize euro in the studio!

nin nonis the modular world so small a busines to atract big builders to offer serious solutions into the digital audio domain ?

Ninstrument.comI think it probably has to do more with demand, but I could be wrong.

nin nonto many XLRs for my taste

William MathewsonThere are several 8 in 8 out interfaces with DB25 connectors already

nin nonfor gigs, a small compact mixer with lots of ios is yet to be offered

William MathewsonOur performance mixer is 8 in

nin nonexpert sleepers adat solutions is almost it but too many modules and too many hp wasted for it when lots of ios are needed

nin noni mean more than 16 channels

William MathewsonWe are showing the GWS mk2 also. Maybe it'll be done in Q2 or Q3

UPDATE:
The NAMM staff confirmed, they just not opened the following ports necessary for live streaming.

outbound port 1935/TCP : outbound streaming over RTMP to most streaming providers
outbound port 2543/TCP : VidiU speed test function, not required for streaming operation
Some of the live streams were goes thru (Facebook live for example) because
it uses other ports:
outbound port 80/TCP : outbound streaming over RTMP to Facebook Live
UPDATE***

LESSON LEARNED applause

I think the hardest thing for me to understand is that Mutable actually wants their modules to be completely re-programmed... I suppose I have too much pride, because if I found an Erbe Verb and it was operating as something other than an Erbe-Verb, I would be depressed about that. I do see great value in a re-programmable device... perhaps something low cost and then if an idea captures my imagination we could develop a hardware especially for that great idea... like the Tapographic Delay from 4ms. If that were just an alt firmware, I'm not sure it would have captured my imagination the way it does.
