Everything about this trilogy is so freaking magical. I hate to be the guy who poo-poos modern this and CGI that (obviously there was a lot of CGI, even beyond Gollum and other obvious stuff), but the little things like this orc trick, the giant ring double in the snow, the magnetic ring that didn't bounce. Who the hell thinks of that stuff???

LotR really is one of the peaks of practical effects.
Perspective tricks and costuming to do much of the work, with CGI used as an extra asset rather than relying on it for every shot.

Incredible miniature models, costuming, sets with forced perspective, they really knew their stuff.

The perfection of this trilogy is that if youre not in the industry you dont notice anything that they did because they did it so well that it just all fits in the world.

Of course the Urakai are larger and the hobbits are smaller thats what my brain is expecting so im not looking for signs of how that works when in reality theyre just actors.

Dude more and more am I realizing how fortunate we are to have had these movies made. The amount of work and attention to detail is very evident and I'm blown away as people peel back the layers of detail that went into this trilogy 💯💥👏🏼

Fans will be forever grateful that detail and craftsmanship worthy of Tolkien’s masterpiece were applied by Jackson. Sadly, it is unlikely that such success will ever be replicated even by Jackson himself, but hope springs eternal as there are other Tolkien stories that deserve to be adapted.
