Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Rice University today announced plans for a new Midtown innovation district that will transform a 9.4-acre site, anchored by the former Sears building, into a hub designed to bring together the area’s entrepreneurial, corporate and academic communities into collaborative spaces and programs.

“The innovation district will leverage the region’s unique economic strengths and help transform Houston into a world leader in data science and digital technologies centered on energy, industrial, health care and logistics industries,” said Rice President David Leebron. “We aim to attract talent and support all stages of the innovation life cycle through state-of-the-art resources, incubators and accelerators, classroom and event space, technology, prototyping facilities, networking opportunities and entrepreneurship support and training.”

My favorite old Sears store in town gone 😥💔 I loved that place dearly but I couldn't stand seeing the homeless ppl in the area. I felt sorry for them

Let's make it happen. Go Rice
BTW please don't remodel, don't tear down what the Iconic Sears looked. It would be consider more historic as you imagine.

Now what are they gonna do about the overwhelming homeless community that have made this area home? I have to pass this area in such disgust by all of the bodies laying around and tents right on sidewalks. They should speed this up ASAP.

Sounds good... but what are they gonna do with the “homeless tent-city” under 59??? Are they gonna get rid of that? Because COH hasn’t been successful at Moving that eye- sore yet.
