Did you seriously just not mention the refusal of the US to sell their patriot air defense system prior to turkey buying the S-400? Turkey was backed into a corner made a decision that was in their best interest. Since then they are determined to becoming completely self-sufficient in their military needs.

I’m American and have been to Turkey and they are some of the nicest people in the world but also some of the Fiercest warriors ever. Hence why their politics might not make sense. They know what they are doing and are good at it. Turkey is basically in the center or the world and has been through and seen everything from the Greeks and romans to the Persians to the mongols and the Russians. It's impossible to stay neutral if your country located in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Balkans and Close to Russia at the same time.

We fully support independent Ukraine since mid 2010s but we also need Putin and even Assad's permissions because of Syrian problem. We have 7 million immigrants here, our economy collapsing and EU left us alone.
