Recently I met my son's friend, who is a 28 years old young man.He told me he used to attend church 4 years ago.But due to his mental illness, he was asked to leave the church because he had uncontrollable behaviours in church sometimes.He was told that he could come back when he get well.Since then he stopped attending church but he still believe in God.Today he said he is 90% recovered, he is working in HR and reaching out to patients who are in the journey of discovery.My son got to know him in the early intervention program and he is encouraging many young patients.My son had invited him to come back to church and I hope we can continue to reach out to him.Even now we find hard to talk about mental health issues in church and there are no one or ministry that can minister to the ones in need.

I love Sheila's openness about her struggles with depression. Mental health issues run rampant on my father's side of the family, including two suicides. I began getting symptoms of depression in my early 20's but had no idea what was wrong with me. It wasn't until I was in my 30's that I was finally diagnosed and went on medication. The church I attended at the time didn't recognize mental illness ~as~ an illness which was partially what prompted me to earn a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling so I could be another Christian voice to help "destigmatize" mental illness. I had the privilege of meeting and briefly talking to Sheila at a Women of Faith conference and she is so very real and so very compassionate. It is thrilling to see how God has used her to minister to others in their brokenness.
