Due to the nature of the topics covered and discussion/criticism of companies + brands in the sewing industry, it is challenging to monetize this channel. Most influencer contracts require a non-disparagement clause, meaning you can't say anything negative or even remotely critical about the brand. This is a large reason why you don't see a lot of reporting on the sewing + crafts industry. Remaining as independent as possible allows me to maintain editorial + creative freedom.

The individuals purchasing this machine are not worried about cost. Bernina will find all the buyers they are looking for. Bernina will treat them with all the respect they feel they deserve. The rest of us will be happily at home sewing and quilting and won’t miss a thing.

For garment construction, I'm happy sewing on my Singer 301. The old button hole attachment does the most common sizes and is so adorable. Look what Bernadette Banner can do with a treadle.

But then again, hoop envy!

Nothing compares to a vintage straight stitch machine

I’m a Bernina person, and have loved all I ever had. But I just bought the 790 PRO a few months ago along with a new Tracey’s Table. Most folks won’t be able to afford both a new table and this machine. It is very pricey, but it’s freaking amazing, and comes with lots of extras. Brother will have one comparable in price before long. I love the scanning, big hoop, new BISR, and the interface is fabulous.

This machine has outdone everything out there. And the Swiss team designing this product are absolutely at the top of the sewing game. As for someone commenting that the saying the ones who can't afford them would be the ones who would really use them and the ones that can afford the high price probably won't use them. Poppycock!!!! Bernina offers classes to educate their users and I am one of many Bernina users who is an advanced sewer and I totally appreciate the features and ability to execute the best quality projects possible with the excellence and quality in this machine to match my sewing skills. Also, they have simplified the user interface so average users can jump on board if they want to. Remember it is manufactured in Switzerland where excellence is the standard. Only the finest materials are used in it's construction. The only criticism I have at this point is they should've released it to work with the Mac platform in native format. Its cumbersome to use Bootcamp and lets just be very clear Mac OS far superior than the Microsoft OS10/11thru its ease of use and reliability. They goofed on this once again. But not enough to prevent me from buying the B990. I plan to buy one, it's got enough new features and horsepower to make me want to replace my B880. Carrie from Northern San Francisco Bay Area

I am catching this on the replay. Bernina must have their joke book out. $22, 999 could be put down toward a down payment for a house.

I have been a Bernina guy since 1997, my first one was the DECO 600, then I got an Artista 185, then a 200, then the 730, then a 630/640 Duo, and last a B830 LE, and all of them do Embroidery. It took me time to get accustomed to the Bernina system. Then, I was shown a Brother and a PFAFF/Viking, and those machines were way easier, better priced, and with the same or more features than my Berninas- I specially liked the Inexpensive Endless/Bordeless hoops from PFAFF/Viking, together with the WiFi capability, the Voice Control and the Embellishment Attachment that allows you to add sequins, beads, yarn and ribbons to the embroidery designs. No Bernina, new or old, has, except for the WiFi, any of those features Well, I got a Brother and PFAFF/Viking ICON 2, and added versatility to my embroidery, and all that for less than half the price of this Bernina 990. My feeling is that Bernina B990 is behind other brands in their features and offerings, and is expensive coz is an European TOL machine. I feel that the B990 is a total flop and disappointment for my use, it doesn't even have the ability to use the Coloreel System, when the Bernina E16 PRO has that capability for 7K less. I will wait for later this year to see what Brother/Babylock gets new to the market. In the meantime, I will be selling my other Berninas (Except the B830LE), and will stay with my Brother and my PFAFF/Viking

I purchased a 24 in long arm with robotics for that kind of money.

Thanks for reporting on this patent issue. I hope you can get a YouTube lawyer on to discuss this. Thanks for all your hard work ❤

I love my Bernini's, but this is more machine than I need. I also couldn't justify that price. But I do have serious hoop size envy. That side stitching would be sweet too. But for the money I will keep my B570 and get a embroidery only machine with a bigger hoop, maybe a multi-needle.

Have you seen the husqvarna epic 2, or ruby 90, the touch screen I believe is just as big, and it’s on the arm. I have the ruby 90, and it has almost all of these features, I love mine, and I paid half of what they’re wanting.

Great reporting Jen, I want to call a Berninal dealer to ask questions about this machine. I am a man that sews and I do not like the look of this new 990 Bernina, to me it looks like a puffed up Marshmallo, I li!e the look of the 830/ 880 Berninas and will . li!e!y source one of those for my collection, the design of those is a little Mad scientist/ quirky and that speaks to me.
I do want to know what happens when a sensor or something unimportant stops working, I do not want the machine to stop cold working if the bobbing thread sensor has a problem.

$22, 999.00 is the MRSP. It probably won't sell for that directly at a dealers. Trade in's, dealer pricing. It is a very nice machine with lots of features. A lot of these features are already on other machine brands. (like my Brother/Babylock). I do love that they gave the icons an actual name. I however would not give up Brother's Design Center for the Bernina. I like the stitch regulator is now built in. It's a neat looking machine. Very pricey.

I think it's a good machine. I am a Bernina person, and I paid 15k for a 790 pro last fall. This one is just beyond my reach. I would wait for the next iteration even if I was getting one. I hope it is a great machine, but we'll have to watch it and see how it works in the wild. Bernina is expensive because it's a precision engineered machine. I won't buy anything else but a Bernina for my daily driver machine, but there are a lot of other options besides the flagship machine.

Once a year in October, Bernina offers 72 month zero percent interest financing. I used it to get my 790 Pro to replace my 25 year old Artista 180, which no longer has connectivity for embroidery.

I hope someone challenges that patent for embossed embroidery. It's so broad it could cover quilting and trapunto, ancient techniques. If it covered a more specific technique like using foam and stabilizer it would make more sense.

don't forget its still a single needle with a flatbed...now when it wirelessly connects with my pacemaker so I know when the thread breaks...sign me up!!!

Bernina has a large tariff applied to the machines. So, the prices are outrageous here. I have a B79 and 165, love them both, but they are small machines. I've heard others say the 880 is hit or miss on quality. I can't justify the price for the 990.
