Oath Keepers militia group founder charged with seditious conspiracy over Jan. 6 riot

Oath Keepers president Elmer Stewart Rhodes III and 10 other members of the militia group have been indicted on charges of seditious conspiracy, according to the Justice Department – marking the first defendants to be charged with sedition in connection with the January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol.

Rhodes, 56, was arrested Thursday at his home in Granbury, Texas, on one count of seditious conspiracy. Another defendant, Edward Vallejo, 63, of Phoenix, was arrested on four counts, including seditious conspiracy, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy to prevent an officer from discharging any duties. The other nine defendants indicted in the case are Oath Keepers who have previously been charged in connection with the Capitol riot.

If convicted at trial, Rhodes and other Oath Keepers charged with seditious conspiracy could face up to 20 years in prison.

My family is deeply rooted in the military . we have aways looked apon the oath keepers as brothers in arms and protectors of America.. to see them make a mistake like this, I feel was poor judgement but, with speical circumstances envolved. Because being orderd by a presedent is so compelling that it brings fourth special law in their defence. I’d bet the charges are bogus. Oath Keepers is a group of current and former law enforcement and military members, who promote keeping the oaths of enlistment and oaths of office. They are about lawfulness, not lawlessness. They’re not a far-right, extremist, militia group. Shame on you for manipulating viewers with all those buzz words. You might want to consider refraining from that behavior. Those who KNOWINGLY deceive and manipulate the people will eventually be held accountable. ☀️⚖️🗡
