Doug Perry, 83-years old, 10th-dan Shorin-ryu karate, retired United States Marine Corps Major (Purple heart and Meritorious Service medals).

Doug Perry Sensei talks about his life in martial arts and the United States Marine Corps. He recently received his 10th dan in Shorin-ryu karate, and during his visit to Okinawa I met up with him and his son Colonel Jason Perry to chat about his extraordinary journey.

Sensei: Masters of Okinawan Karate is a crowd-funded YouTube documentary series about the legendary martial arts teachers of Okinawa, Japan.

We are now shooting with two 4k cameras (FS5 and A7Sii). There are still many improvements to be made, and hopefully we'll keep progressing with each video. Ideally we'd get a proper boom mic and audio recorder to improve audio, cinema lenses, and we need greater data storage as we're working with and archiving the huge 4K Pro Res Raw files.

It's so great to see him around! In my time of training I have met both and learning from them has been the most enjoyable time. They have so much to teach and they have a passion for it!

This man was extremely inspirational to me from 1992 until 1995. I was never a student under him but saw him at every Shorin Ryu event and made sure to seek him out for conversation. I was a teenager in those years, and the respect he gave was admirable from someone of his status.
