How will today's teenagers shape our future? An insight to this was shared on Feb 25th 2017 by Al Yasmina Academy students from Abu Dhabi, who hosted an exclusive TEDx event titled: There is more to us than meets the eye. They took to the stage to enlighten an audience of special guests and media members.

Tackling a variety of timely, thought provoking topics, the talks explored subjects including the impact of the media on human compassion, how we can tackle personal confusion, and why music is a language. Other topics, such as the importance of artistic creation in modern culture and how to sell ourselves to succeed in life, were also explored.

In this talk, Carol Mokatash discusses abstract art, what it means to experience a painting and why an open mind is key.

Carol Mokatash is an Aldar Academies Al Yasmina Academy student in Abu Dhabi. She aspires to become an architect.

To state that medieval is "Very boring" is really to make the statement: "I am really boring. "

Edvard Munch painted "The Scream" in 1893 and not 1983 (1:26). Good presentation though.

Trying to explain an abstract paintings is delusional. It is when the art loses the sanity, many ppl jump on the bandwagon of abstract "art" occult.

This argument is based on the false premise that art now appreciated was once derided, therefore all art now derided will in time be appreciated. Conclusion, abstract art is for dummies.

Blue Poles is undeniably a Jackson Pollock painting, not Mark Rothko. Oopse

She didn’t explain what changed her mind about abstract art?

Some of the people commenting here don't seem to realize that the speaker is a student - from "Aldar Academies Al Yasmina Academy ... in Abu Dhabi" - in other words, she is not a professor, a public intellectual, a professional art critic, or even a kindergarten teacher. Give her a damn break - if she's not up to your standards, move along. You pay your money, you take your chances - wait - this was free and you didn't even have to get up off the couch ....

I lost 8 minutes, of my life listening to a sophomoric presentation. If you are going to use examples, please know who created the work, when it was created, and explain why it fit within a certain period.

Dismissing all art before the 1800s as boring is such a ridiculously absurd statement, have you done any research?! And then you compare your favorite paintings to one of the most yawned-over (yet most popular of all time amongst public) paintings. One of your complaints was the size difference. . . have you not seen the murals in the Vatican, Velazquez, literally anything else besides the Moaning Lisa?!?! Your argument boils down to: "This stuff I like is so cool, look how cool it is. Your stuff, like, like, it's boring and it's not cool, OK? How did you make it to the TED stage anywhere???

Did you see some of the artwork? "I probably can paint that" category? That's an understatement. Boy, people do more advance art with makeup!

Don’t sum up modern abstract art if you can’t comprehend it, do by all means sum up great masterpieces that everyone can clearly gauge and rate on its artistic intentions as “boring”. A word comes to mind “exclusion” and your not welcome or equipped to judge “modern art”. The real true greatness that’s achieved is the art of the marketing masterminds who know how to artificially create demand both in the studio and in the market.
