forgive my skepticism but it really seems like the rules are designed to keep EPL teams from being able to challenge to big clubs like MC, MU, etc. I understand that leagues dont want clubs to over-spend but, given the huge increase in TV money champions league teams or even Europa leage teams, there would be an incentive for clubs to invest in talent so that they can challenge for the top spots. Second, there is the nature / nurture factor. Manchester is so marketable because they spend $$ on the players, the players succeed, making the club more marketable. Manchester City invested hundreds of millions of $ into their team, which improved their marketability. Now, under these rules, it has become infinitely more difficult to improve your club value by spending in the hopes that your improved club will make your team's merchandise more marketable. Ultimately, the rich clubs will stay richer and lower clubs wont be able to keep promising players.
