I adore them both. It broke my heart when John died. He will never be forgotten. What a beautiful gesture that Steve Martin showed his family.

I read somewhere that John was so kind--he'd often buy everyone on the set lunch or dinner. He treated people with the utmost respect. So much of his personality was projected into his screen characters. The last five minutes of PLANES, TRAINS, & AUTOMOBILES is phenomenal.

The final scene of Trains, Planes and Automobiles was filmed in the home next to my parent's home. By the time they filmed the scene it was very warm (it was a generally warm winter) and they had to make snow for the scene where they drag the trunk down the street and up to the house. During the filming my Father was out in the yard getting his garden ready for the season when John Candy came through the yard using the well worn shortcut in order to get to the house where the filming took place. Candy stopped and talked to my Dad for a long time about the neighborhood and the schools, Dad said he had no idea that Candy was an actor, for starters because he was so nice! My Dad finally realized that he had been talking to a star when some neighborhood kids ran into the yard to get an autograph, which John Candy kindly obliged.

I used to have a movie poster of Planes Trains & Automobiles on my dorm room ceiling. I'm 53 now and just watched it on a plane home... my daughter looking at me every time I laughed out loud. This movie and these actors just mean a lot to me. They are one of a kind.

Martin and Candy. Two comedic legends. Can't believe that it's almost 30 years since we lost Candy. RIP John.

That final shot in Uncle Buck, John Candy with that totally sincere smile and the little wave to his niece that freezes. Just a wonderful shot that is so touching, to me at least.

John Candy told Catherine O'Hara in a phone conversation before he went to Durango, Mexico to film Wagons East that he had a premonition that something bad was going to happen; he just didn't know it was going to happen to him. RIP John. Your adoring fans miss you.

I think Trains, Planes, and Automobiles is the best comedy ever. It's completely hilarious but the pathos ending is the icing on the cake. Great movie

It's hard to believe John Candy has been gone for almost 30 years. His comic genius is sorely missed.

I’ve watched this hundreds of times. It’s one of my all time favorite movies. The loss of John Candy was so tragic and a loss of a brilliant talent.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles to this day is my favorite holiday movie. What I loved is how funny the movie was while also telling a touching story about compassion and helping your fellow man. In my opinion, this is the type of movie you want your kids watching because it teaches them to be kind to others because you never know what someone is going through.

Brothers from a different mother 💕
I love the fact that John's wife and Steve were/are there for each other. These two men were meant to be in each other's lives, I can imagine the deep loss, its much easier when surrounded by others with the same connection, same loss 💗 🙏🏼
I'm glad I found this, two of my very favorites!
