One of the biggest reasons ive taken a hiatus from the tabletop. Nobody at the only shop in my area wants to play for fun. Its always tournament/meta lists and they have no common courtesy.

I get it from a tournament layout. But honestly, 40k is at it's worst when it's a 'tournament' game. It's at it's best when it's thematic, laid back, and relaxed.

The terrain rules are good but the terrain diversity on the tabletop is extremely poor. It's just different sized ruins despite having 4 different types of terrain to use

My favorite game I ever played was on a cratered, snowy field with rolling hills and crystal forests. Not a single gothic ruin or bit of industrial machinery in sight...

I own a small game storr and besides TO events I always put terrain down to be thematic and fun. When possible. My group of players just come in, pick a table and play. They may adjust a little here and there but most just roll dice and move plastic wardollies.

Theme always theme. Same goes with armies is it needs to be about theme w d flavour IMO after all that is why people fell in love with Warhammer in general be it fantasy or 40k or now Horus Heresy and Age of Sigmar. i haven't bought anything from GW outside of one kit and lore since 2020 because of pricing and rules. I dont have a ton of free time, so i make an army after a couple months of slowing buying stuff, painting and doing ooints up, new codex comes out everything is wrong by the time i get sround to fixing it oh look more updates online have to change things again. Oh look a new edition is out ha I have my old third edition books and OPR. Competitive play has ruined Warhammer you see more and more people talking about this now as well.

Or...maybe...this is the argument someone has whenever they are standing in a store, or staring at a screen, and trying to decide if they're going to actually buy anything? 😊 On the one hand, MONEY! (gold) On the other, painful, crippling debt. And all to play a game some of us will never be good at😊, or unable to find other people with which to play, depending upon where one lives.

If im not in a tournament, im not gonna play like it. I want my little dudes and dudettes to fight for something cool, or destroy something cool. If my opponent starts this kinds stuff, i just concede and watch another game. Lol.

Imma be honest the only terrain I’ve ever played with consisted of water bottles, books, and random shit strewn in a somewhat even yet random fashion in the table. I honestly like having to strategize on the fly with random setups

80% of problems with 40k would be fixed if they switched to alternating activations and killed the codexes.

Then there's me playing AoS narrating it like: The Engineer and his Warpgrinder burst from the Earth and he says "Cheesed to meet you!" As he orders his Ratling Gun squad to open fire. The rats screech out "Ra-ta-ta-ta-ta!" As there weapons wind up and unleash warp bullets. *Rolls to hit*
