legit concerned for microtransactions. Imagine having to buy individual minis $4.99 for a single gobllin anyone? Maybe it will be like roll20 where you get all the content of a book. Though they SHOULD give you all this with the physical book!

Ardling: Planar opposite of Tiefling.
Aasimar: But what about me though?

I played AD&D as a kid and played a bit of 3E when I was in my 40's. (I'm 59 now. Long term fan of D&D. lol) As a player, I don't like the idea of monsters or the DM not being able to crit. Part of the fun is not knowing what the dice is going to do for the DM. If the DM can't crit that takes a lot of the risk off the player. Less risk = less fun. And if you're a decent player that has a good attitude towards the DM and your fellow players then they won't mind you creating a new character if you die anyway. Just my own opinion from an old school player. Thanks.

I will most likely be playing fifth edition for years to come. It’s what me and my players all know we have tons of books as resources to use and going forward it’s just going to be easier on us and I don’t see anything really in this new version that will make us want to change. Regardless of that this video is very insightful and thank you for your commentary

So here are my biggest concerns when it comes to this whole thing:
1.) I hope they go back and revise how some of the base classes work. Trying to use subclasses for a long time to balance out weaker classes like Sorcerer, Warlock and Ranger has caused some issues. If they can go back and tweak the existing classes and subclasses to make them a bit better without nerfing the better classes to the ground, i'll be happy.

2.) I hope they add better homebrew support for D&D Beyond. As someone who makes a lot of homebrew (especially items) D&D Beyond's charatcer sheet is such a pain to use because you just can't add that stuff onto it. You pretty much HAVE to use official material, which sucks. Just let me edit the damn sheet I want to edit it.

3.) They need to play nice with 3rd party products and creations. This could very easily go down a path where they try and stop smaller creators and items that aren't official from being published. This can be anything from simple homebrew online, to spellbook apps, to Virtual Table Tops like Roll20, to entire published homebrew books and other projects. If they throw their weight around, it can very quickly turn into what Nintendo does to fan games. And this WILL hurt D&D. It won't kill it, but it will leave a nasty scar. Let's hope things don't go down this route.

The whole digital thing is _extremely_ worrying for me. We've seen how easy it is for companies to get greedy and start locking content behind pay walls, restrict what should be common features, and end up ruining the experience for players.

I'm not saying it's bad, but it's definitely something to hold WotC to. I honestly hope that One D&D is as innovative, and lived up to the hype. My worry is that in the flashiness, we might miss something

Not super stoked on the removal of subraces, feel like that was always a fun and dynamic way of adding diversity. One that actually added tangible difference too.

I miss the niche abilities backgrounds give. They weren't over powered and just fun little extra quirks that come up from time to time.

One DND to rule them all, one DnD to find them, one DND to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

Makes sense to me. 5E is doing so well there is no reason to force a "new" edition. Just tweak/improve 5E and let everyone continue to use their existing adventures and settings. New rule books, sure, but that's a smaller percentage of books to buy since all the existing 5E adventures can still work (with minor tweaking maybe). Some of these SUGGESTED play testing ideas are cool and hopefully will make it into the final version. Others that don't work well for the majority will end up being shelved. Let's just keep testing them and giving constructive feedback to improve things.

The rule for only weapon attacks critting is kinda concerning. Yeah, sure it sucks in an obvious way, as it takes away crits from most characters, and everyone loves to crit (DMs too!). But the real reason why I am concerned by it is that it seems like a lazy way to "fix" martials. It doesn't make martials better, it just makes non-martials worse. I hope they focus on spicing up damage types, weapons, and other martial things instead.

Obviously I will be ignoring such a rule at my table, but I do hope they put more effort into bridging the magical-martial divide.

I remember my first 'One D&D', that was 3rd ed.. Oh yeah, it was gonna be amazing, because everything was going just be advancement of that, and everything would be backwards compatible, and it was going to end the need for editions. Oh, and we were going to get digital mapping that would totally revolutionize playing the game, removing the need for an actual tabletop (Why am I getting this odd sense of deja vu). Then there was my next "One D&D" moment, when they release 4th edition, and it was going to be the end of editions, and include a digital mapping software that would 'revolutionize' playing the game, removing the need for an actual tabletop (Have we been here before? It feels like we've been here before).

Then came the Next "One D&D" moment, when they released 5e, and it would be the end of editions, and they were developing digital mapping software that would revolutionize playing the game, removing the need for an actual tabletop (Oh My GODD!). And now we have One D&D, which is to be the end of editions, and they're developing digital mapping software that will revolutionize playing the game, removing the need for an actual

Sigh...

4:19 "If you have inspiration, you can expend it when you make an attack roll, saving throw, or ability check. Spending your inspiration gives you advantage on that roll." - D&D Player's Handbook 5th Edition, 10th Printing, October 2018
They haven't changed that as far as I know. It has been the rule since 1st printing.

4:47 Just like the "Variant Human Traits" did in 5e. Feats have been optional so far, as well as this variant of the human race. This could change with the new One D&D version.

I wonder how having artificers and bards as arcane casters will be. I honestly liked how they had a blend of "arcane", "primal" and "divine" spells. Nice to be able to heal in a pinch, for example. Guess wait and see!

It seems like the Ultimate Goal to create the FINAL version of D&D, a stable system, but honestly it's really short sighted. The game will be 50 years old when they release ONE D&D and it will eventually change again in the future. Plus, from a business standpoint, new editions sell more books.
Calling it something special is just going to make it seem even worse if it's unpopular. I think calling it 6th Edition is fine, and is acknowledging the lineage of the game and the possibility of future editions.

Honestly, opening up Thieves' Cant to ostensibly everyone makes me pretty happy. Half of the Rogue subclasses don't really fall into the "Criminal" purview at all, whereas I've seen plenty of non-rogue characters that it would have made sense that they knew Thieves' Cant. Similarly, I feel like a decent swath of Rangers would know at least basic Druidic. Tying obscure languages to backgrounds makes all the sense in the world to me.

The new inspiration mechanic seems insanely powerful to me. Especially combined with the nat20 rule for checks.

Not sold on these changes.

Ardling seems like a replacement to aasimar, which I hope isn't the case, as I really like aasimar.

I will have to see how that plays out, but I'm not giving up my DM crits.
