In our weekly Press Corner, a review of key political developments with our fellow journalists and other experts, we addressed the challenges and risks of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which began on January 1. We also couldn't overlook the historic shift in the energy market, with Ukraine ending shipments of Russian gas to Western Europe while the continent grapples with the mounting political and economic costs of Europe's longstanding dependence on Russian hydrocarbons. Using Finland as an example, we analyzed the various forms of Russian hybrid attacks and different strategies of dealing with Russia's aggression against its neighbors.

Thank God for Poland, the one country that can see through Putins machinations. It now needs to start true leadership, not only for itself but for its neighbours.

Hi Poland
Can the Polish Presidency get rid of Orban and friends? Or change legislation so there is no need for a 100% Majority on major issues? Expecting so many countries to all agree on anything is a ridiculous idea so....

Did I understand them correctly? Around 18:00 in the video, are they complaining that Trump did not attend the EU inauguration? Setting aside for now the fact that Trump is not very pleasant to be around, I think it is important to point out that Trump is not yet President. He is still just citizen Trump. The delay from election day until inauguration day is filled with uncertainty that is ridiculous but traditional, and written in stone, or at least in the constitution. But to be clear, Trump will not be president until January 20th.

Nato should cede military authority to the EU Parliament (or some body of that nature). All Europeans would be unified under a single, sovereign flag and, as of Nov 5th, possibly as the last bastion of democracy.

I think immediately Poland should take steps to pacify Hungary and Slovakia, absolutely insist with various forms of legal pressure on German, French, but also Italian and Spanish spend on defense up to 3% of their GDP effective immediately.
The other area is Europe’s competitiveness. This would be a much harder topic to break down the Brussels bureaucracy by easing of ability to perform entrepreneurial activities with simplified laws and tax breaks for the first three years of an operation of such companies.
This goes hand in hand with increase of European union funding for research and development into new technologies, including decarbonization and AI.
Lastly, Poland ought to develop both national strategy statement, as well as EU strategy statement that is coherent and unifying round a single goal of maintaining some of the remaining strength of European union.

Russia is achieving its goals. Zelenski said he has brigades but no weapons. Western nations have pumped at least $370B in weaponry to the Ukraine.😊
