I drive a Merc truck for work too. See some unbelievable behaviour on the roads. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been overtaken on dual carriageways only to be cut up as they swerve into the slip road I’m passing 🤷🏻‍♂️

Beautiful place for Morning Musing. Just going to listen to Super Massive Black Hole now. It's not that people are "trying" to kill you, they're just not looking. 😁

Last October I was overtaking two cars on a straight road, they were quite slow, the rear car decided to overtake just as I was passing her without check her mirrors to see if it was clear hitting the front off my bike knocking me to the ground, 8 broken ribs and a punctured lung and my GS was written off, she maintains she didn’t see me

Had this happen quite often while on my bike but the best i had was driving a coach about 35 years ago(44ft long, and white) on a duel carriage way and this guy just pulled out in front of me, oooh and his excuce was sorry i didnt see you. You got to think what every other road user is going to do and anticipatewhat they are going to do it so be prepared.

I've heard of saccadic masking, but this is ridiculous! Fair enough, it was a small vehicle, he'd probably see the GS though 😂😂😂

You definitely did the right thing by anticipating it and slowing down. I find that a friendly toot of the horn helps, also a bit of sideways movement.

I have a near crash experience in one of my older videos, similar situation and I also got my spidey senses and was braking really hard to avoid it.

Stay safe out there, buddy. R1300GS test ride video Sunday 10th 😉

Exactly as you said mate, If they can't see a lorry what hope is there on a 2 wheeler? There always was the danger of not being seen in the past but I think it's got much worse in the last 10yrs or so. Why would that be, I can't work out any logical reason?

Working at an airport I see some absolutely terrible driving and lack of observations. They might not be trying to kill us, but they sure will if we don't ride/drive defensively!

Having driving large lorries and mobile cranes I found people like you pickup driver you encounter they think get out quickly not realising stopping these vehicles takes an effort. I ride with the attitude that everyone is not looking out for me so most of the time I'm good. I hate the drivers who pull out on you when there is nothing behind you. Grrrr. Dartmoor looking good and moody.

I always ASSUME they are going to pull out if I'm on the bike or in the car. And I've always treated EVERYONE like they are out to kill me, especially if I'm on the bike.
I've been told I ride to defensely, but I started riding at 17, and now I'm 65 so sod what other people think 😂😂

I had this a few weeks ago on the bike pick up with a trailer pulled out, I could see him and anticipated his move so l had already slowed a bit which was good as the car behind also pulled out bringing me to a halt. The thing with bikes is people do actually see you but that’s not the whole story. The way our brain works is we see something and then our brain puts some order to it, cuts bits out, ignores bits and uses our past experience to decide what’s there and what’s not. For many bikes often get cut from the image. An easy example of this principle is when we’re shown a sentence with two the’s but we ignore one because it’s not what we expect to see. Fortnite YouTube channel did a video a few years back explaining this. As I approach a junction or traffic I always move around the lane, easier to register the sideways movement than a single light. Doesn’t explain not seeing a truck mind you👍
