Lets's be honest. The west has colonised the Africa economically for decades after they left. Africa has been kept poor while the west has prospered. In the last decade China has become increasingly accepted and active in the African continent. The whole Africa has been transformed and is showing development even faster than the west. China has unlocked the Africans' potential. Both Africa and China are now on the same fast train to rapid development.
As a retired professional engineer helping countries to build power plants all over the world I can testify the rise of the west and have thought Africa was going in the opposite direction of getting poorer and poorer. That was before China on the scene. Today Africa is not the same Africa I worked 20 years ago. The changes are truly substantial on the ground because of the new infrastructure with roads, expressway, residential housing, water supply, agriculture, economic zones, power plants, ports, railways, schools, universities, airports and even a CDC. What I like most is the African leaders are now more outspoken, more confident and more assertive. They have been treated equal by China and are behaving similarly to the Chinese leader in the world stage. If the Africans work hard to get what they are today they don't have to be subservient to the west. They can look after themselves just like the Chinese.

Thanks China for one Win-Win project after another. Give someone a fish or teach them to fish. The next generation of Africans will be better educated than the current generation and the current generation is working hard to make that happen.

China is trying, but it seems like it is not doing enough in winning the minds and hearts of the African people. In Kenya, for example, China has excelled in infrastructure development, but thats all about it. Meanwhile, Western countries like the US, UK, and other European nation have a noticeable influence in military, finance, governance, tourism, culture, and trade. China needs to pull up its socks beyond just constructing buildings and roads in Africa.
