I really love your sharpening videos, J Rod. You do a fantastic job of explaining the little details that make a difference. I like that you are willing to do videos on the basics multiple times. Hope you have a great day, sir.

The hardest part is having straight angles. I think many people end up with convex edges without even knowing it.

Then stropping is a whole other skill with many factors at play. Some of which I feel are the pressure you apply, amount of strokes, grit level of compound used, and how soft or hard the piece of leather you have is.

Properly sharpening a knife is truly an art and science I have not nearly mastered yet. I plan on getting the new worksharp fixed angle system once they become more available.

Thanks for spreading the knowledge once again kind sir.

Absolutely great tutorial, such an inspiration for me to start free hand, although I still suck at it!

Another great tutorial, I wish I had you patience in explaining the process.
Do you always chase the burr in your stone progression??
Might need to try that. I usually just raise a burr on my first stone then do set number of passes pet side on my next stones. Other than that the only thing I do differently is after stropping I will run my blade on a cork block to remove any leftover burr.
How are you liking vanax?? Did you resolve the issue you talked about??
Again, great video....keep em coming..

Nice.
Yeah I am wanting a set of those stones. I read they are better than Dmt, and also read that they are coarser compared to dmt. Meaning a 600 ultra sharp is roughly a 325 Dmt.. Is this about right?

Really, REALLY helpful! One question about finding my angle. How about with a really small, short blade? I can't get two fingers in place!

Could you please do a short video sharpening your Civivi Elementum in D2? I would love to see your angle for that blade in D2!

I’ve totally ruined my Kershaw Cryo 🤦‍♂️... due to using a Smith’s diamond pocket sharpener and not using a flat surface. I’ve since took his advice and got a 6” diamond stone (Sharpal 1200/300) and it seems a little easier with the angle guide as a reference. I’m not gonna touch my new Civivi Elementum in D2 for a while Lol. It’s frustrating to starting out but I’m sure I’ll get better with time... or after I get tired of ruining my knives. Gonna buy some cheap ones but I’ve noticed Ozark steel is WAY different than 8cr and most definitely D2!

Edit: Just noticed his angle approach to the stone... I’ve been starting the blade perpendicular and keeping the angle for the tip seems so much easier by raising your elbow?!

That was a great video. Not sure I would have said eventually you can move your wrist rather than lift your elbow only because you know some are going to do that too soon. Other than that great video. I thought I could here a difference once the burr was totally on the other side. Then when it was moved back. Was I just hearing things?? Wish I had an SD card in this phone to download the video.
