For the past decade, Peter Byck has focused on telling the stories of renegade ranchers and maverick scientists looking for a better way to grow our food, revitalize rural communities, and save our soils.

Starting with Soil Carbon Cowboys starring Neil Dennis, Gabe Brown, and Allen Williams - the “carbon cowboys” shorts have become de facto text books, quickly showing folks who haven’t yet heard about soil health and regen ag the amazing benefits of working with nature.

Roots So Deep (you can see the devil down there) brings together a decade of scientific research with those storytelling skills to share an important question for the world: can this simple change in grazing practice help farmers get out of debt, restore their depleted soils, rebuild wildlife habitat and draw down huge amounts of carbon? The answer is in our new 4 part docuseries!!!

Love this channel and the work they do. I’ve decided after 10 years in corporate food service that I’m done, and I’m going to open a regenerative agriculture dairy farm. Thats my plan. My family used to have a dairy farm when my great grandparents ran it. Our maple farm is still going but the dairy shut down. No idea how it’s going to happen but it’s going to!! I want to teach my two sons to take care of the earth, and that it will take care of them if they do. Amen.

The amount of shit I’ve gotten for moving away from destructive modern practices is crazy. Knowing that others have come out of that shit storm with smiles on their faces, really helps keep me going when things get heavy. Keep up the good work!

When you treat the soil as your main livestock, it treats you well back!

Long term changes in climate has always happened, nothing we're doing is going to influence it one way or another.

Now just gotta get the forestry industry on board. Everybody can cycle with nature because the world is going south in a freefall.

The work done by theae farmers is beautiful. Simply mimicking the bison and taking advantage of an environment that was shaped over hundreds of years to prosper and flourish in this way.
Unfortunately we cant do this here (Australia) because we never had huge herds of roaming beasties, no savannahs and no grassy plains. Just bush, beaches and desert.

Excellent summary of the movie and the underlying science and solution

That's a happy rancher if he has free time.

Hey guys, im a grad student who studies sustainable agriculture at UC Davis. Do you have any examples in northern California that could be incorporated into a study? why is there so little study on this??

If I had seen a video like this in the late 80s I probably would’ve joined with my friend to work his farm. He started his farm without a plow and hand tilled his soil. He referred to it as a garden.

Don’t clump natural farmers with climate change zealots. We are not doing it for the climate we are doing it for the earth and our animals not for your climate alarmism.

Making it about carbon and climate will backfire. Make it about better land use.

I wish this could be an answer for dairy farms.

Not sure climate change is the angle to take here. I'm sure it helps but feels like one plane across country cancels it out.

Mother Nature has been around for millions of years. You would do well to listen. If you try to fight her she will definitely have the last word!!

The concept here is great. Framing the other farmers ir bigger farmers or corporate farmers as the enemy is just b.s. All farmers adopt proven methods from no till to better rotation techniques. A better cheaper more efficient way to produce the crop year after year is ALL farmers goal.
