Change managers need to help staff go through five sets of prerequisites for successful and lasting change. The ADKAR process identifies these prerequisites as Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, and Reinforcement. Each phase of the ADKAR process is treated as a barrier that needs to be overcome to have successful change.

Much like Lewin’s change model, ADKAR has three core phases; preparing for change, managing the change, and reinforcing the change. Project Managers who are experts in a specific change model will implement change more successfully than those who do not.

Kolme Group offers insight into the ADKAR Process.

RESISTANCE TO CHANGE Happens. Kolme Group discusses the best course to minimize resistance to a process change in the full webinar Project Managers Need to Be Change Managers.

The key to lasting success for any business is to build upon the foundation you've already laid with your company employees. Your senior management team/sponsors will need to know, understand, and accept their ongoing responsibility to advocate for the continued adoption of the change and proactively seek out and mitigate change resistance.

A transition plan will serve as the roadmap to adoption. This process plan is one of the most critical deliverables your project needs to accomplish before project completion.

Do you have one? Want to talk more about incorporating change management into your PM practice and helping your business succeed?
