Do Not Go To University: Say NO! to University in the UK in 2020

Kids are being lied to about the value of a dodgy 2:1 in Social Sciences.

£50K of debt. Interest rates at close to 6% and employability rates down the toilet.

Do not follow the crowd. Do your own thing. Anything. Dig, sew, travel, drive, build.

Here in America, we desperately need tradesmen. My husband and son build bridges, they are a dying breed, young gaggles full of really dumb, unskilled morons. Skills pay great money, and never unemployed.

Yes, that’s it! Genius!! become a doctor or a surgeon without going to university. You can do that no problem. Superb idea 🤔

That “useless 2:1 in psychology or social sciences” might be someone’s chance to get off a council estate. Not everyone is a trust fund baby... 😑

Completely agree, I did an electrical qualification at college didn't do a degree and I get paid very well as I learnt a skill. Plus, I can get a job anywhere. Learn a trade.

The best advice would be to not take any advice from Katy Hopkins, in my opinion.

I agree. I think before anyone goes to university, they should have to demonstrate what the plan is at the end of the course. Not just do it for the sake of it or can't think of anything else to do.

The thing is the careers you mentioned at the end all require a university degree. I’m a student nurse and it’s close to impossible for someone my age to become a nurse without going to university. Pharmacists, doctors, dentists, vets, physios, radiographers and so many more all require a university degree. You can’t say to seek a career that is worthwhile but also don’t go to university because those careers, in this day and age, require a degree.

only go to uni if your employer pays and its STEM field

Wise words to the youth of today. I wish better higher education and career advice was given to me between the ages of 16-20 years-old. The skills that I learned during my education certainly helped, but none of my higher education is applicable today for the business which I now own and run myself.

The trouble is that many jobs require degrees for entry. I was a geeky teen that liked programming so went to uni to do computer science. I gained the only first class honours degree in my year yet I don’t think I learned a single thing at uni. It was easy for me purely because it was something I was in to and that I picked it up during my teens.
In the 20 years since graduating if I look back at my career versus what was taught at uni then I can honestly say out of all the years there I’ve used less than an hours worth of knowledge. The degree was useless aside from getting my foot in the door.
I’m now in a position where I’m involved in hiring and I have no qualms at considering folk without degrees.

I’ve always said apprenticeships and traineeships are a much better way of networking and proving your worth to an employer.

Katie is bang on it's one big con. Massive debt for young people is obscene.

Yeah, don’t follow your dreams. Do a job that isn’t for you just to keep society sweet and then when your life and dreams go down the pan, society really won’t give a shit.

Go on a back packing tour of Europe for a few years that come back to the UK on a dingy and you'll have free education
