How Blue Sky Systems is redefining how virtual desktops are done | #HPEDiscover
by Tim Hawkins | Dec 3, 2015
Blue Sky Systems, Ltd. has partnered with Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE) to revolutionize virtual desktop technology.
Rob Strechay, director of software-defined storage at HPE, and Jonathan Bastin, director of Blue Sky Systems, sat down with Dave Vellante, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during HPE Discover 2015 in London to talk about the companies’ partnership.
Virtual desktop advancements
Blue Sky, a cloud storage provider, saw where virtual desktop was going and identified opportunities in the education market. The cost of support of a virtual desktop far outweighed the cost of acquisition of a virtual desktop. Additionally, being in the education market, the end users were children, who sometimes tended to not respect the hardware or software they are using to learn. This generated a high need for repair of the deployed virtual desktop systems.
Blue Sky’s cloud platform fundamentally changed the way this is done. “Essentially, rather than replace the equipment or re-imaging the machine that can take a day or half a day, they could now do it in a matter of minutes,” said Bastin.
Reducing hardware cost
Many of the businesses needing to run certain software did not have the hardware to do so or the revenue to purchase it.
“So what we’ve tried to do is to consolidate and commoditize the IT environment by utilizing the cloud infrastructure,” said Bastin.
