Rogue Traders, originally called Rogue Traders Militant during the era of the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy in the Warhammer 40k setting, are unique and powerful Human individuals who serve as a combination of freelance explorers, conquistadors, and interstellar merchants for the Imperium of Man.

They are hereditary Imperial servants and nobles, given a starship, a crew, and sometimes a contingent of Space Marines (in sporadic cases) or troops of the Astra Militarum and carte blanche to roam those worlds of the galaxy that still lie beyond Imperial control or knowledge.

Probably one of the best professions for a human in 40k

They are pretty swell fellows, when G-Man told them they are more needed than ever and he needs them to go further, to unexplored and deadly places and that it probably would cost them all their lives none of them backed out, whether for pride, greed or for more altruistic reasons they all were like, "Towards the unknown, ? Danger everywhere and almost certain death at the end of it? Pfff that's a tuesday for us".

Being a rogue trader has it perks especially if you are human, don't have an unreasonable hate to many xenos (still would fight those who threatens you), and wanted more freedom.

I remember there are some rogue traders have Renegade space marines, mercenary Orks, wandering Aeldari, and other xenos on their team without getting chased by the ordo hereticus and ordo xenos.

This is probably the best possible profession to have as a human in the Imperium. Arguably even better than something like being a high ranked official on a pleasure world.

Rogue Traders are my favorite 40k thing. During a large window of 40k Fandom where I could enjoy, but not play, the game, I settled for absorbing the lore, and when I discovered the Fantasy Flight Games 40k lines, RPG offered a chance where TT wouldn't. I've been playing D&D for 20 years, and into it for almost 30, but my personal Rogue Trader is still my most advanced, detailed, and fleshed out character in a verse I have ever made, clocking in at over 45 MS Word pages of history, exploits, allies, and kit. I like them because they are effectively the pinnacle of what humans can be, with unwavering ambition, and access to the best of what the Imperium can provide. Their own ship, the best weapons, and they can even associate with outsiders, and xenos. I just love their sheer options!

These would make such a great premise for a space open world RPG set in 40k.

Man, I just wanna explore the world of 40k outside of the major wars. Seeing everything from lush, peaceful paradise worlds to dormant tomb worlds, to seeing something I shouldn't have and being assassinated by a Vindicare hanging upside down from a small ship in orbit above me.

Picture this: a squad of sororitas goes on a rouge trader ship, and they find
-a Necron repairing stuff
-a Nurgle cultist making breakfast
-a trio of rebel blood ravens discussing something like a robbery
-a Tyranid disconnected from the hive mind just chilling
-and drukhari doing drug
And they almost draw their weapons before the human rogue trader himself stops them by saying "hey hey chill out they're friends i swear!" And the sororitas are left in sheer confusion
