Lego 4558 Metroliner - 1991 Train Set

This is a quick overview of possibly the best train set made by Lego (besides sets like the 7740 or 10194). In particular this is a 9V Lego Train set, it has 784 pieces, comes with a large sized oval of track, two engines (only one powered in the original set, one passenger car, a platform, and eleven minifigures. Copies of them run for about $350 used and about $1,500 new on Bricklink and eBay as of July 2024.

I'd give it 5/5 stars, it's a great looking set with plenty of simple play features and loads of minifigs. It has a pretty decently sized platform, tons of fun details, and an unbelievable quantity of doors to open for a Lego train. There are several great expansion options for this as well (4547, 4554). It's only flaw being that it didn't come with a 9V controller, but considering the already high price and piece count that isn't a huge surprise but even something as major as that doesn't matter. Chances are if you have this set, you have a couple of other 9V sets and already have a controller or can justify getting a controller in addition. This is the crown jewel of Lego trains and the peak of the 9V system.
