DON’T Use Sand to Level your Lawn!! *INSTEAD USE THIS*

Plan on Leveling your Lawn? Watch This.

In this video, I go straight to the pro’s to ask them what is the best lawn leveling material. My personal recommendation is to level with a mix of sand and dirt using a lawn leveling rake. As you will see in the video, the pros also recommend a mix of 50% sand and 50% soil to level a bumpy lawn. Leveling with straight sand is ok if you only have minor bumps and ruts that are less than 1/2 inch but anymore than that, you should use a mix of sand and soil.

A few issues topdressing with only sand are is increased irrigation due to the poor water holding properties of sand. If you do decide to level with only sand be sure to have a proper irrigation system installed because it will require increased watering. Also, if you use too much sand it can retain heat during the dog days of summer resulting in your grass frying out.

The benefit to using a mix of sand and soil to topdress is that you get the leveling properties of sand while retaining the clay composition of your soil. Another benefit to adding sand to your soil is that it improves drainage. Sand is known for its excellent drainage properties, allowing excess water to penetrate through the soil and prevent water retention, which can lead to turf diseases such as lawn fungus.

Basic equipment needed to level your bumpy lawn are lawn leveling rake or lawn leveler , lawn lute , or a lawn level drag . Also you will need a gorilla cart or wheel barrel to haul around the thousands of pounds of material for your DIY project. If you are looking to get more specific tools for the job such a rake designed just for leveling your lawn I will leave some links below.

Unfortunately, places like this that produce a good product are kinda rare. 95% don't take the steps these guys do. Great video George. 👍🏼

I can tell you right now brotha... not a lot of places that take this much care into their product! I've called every place around and normally the front desk person has no clue how big the sand is... would never give you advise like this guy does. You can tell he loves his craft! Great video as always George! 😊🤙🏾🔥🙏🏾

What a great facility. A place like that is hard to find. The screening process is so important. In most of the material I get, whether it's already "screened" or not, I spend so much time picking out rocks, sticks, dirt clods, etc... Seeing how fine that material was made me really envious.

As mentioned earlier, been a customer for years, drove down there today to inquire about some raised bed mix, finally realized the guy at the counter was actually the owner, said he is their seven days a week. The place was packed, even for a cold Sunday in April. !st class facility!

Thanks George, Just spoke to Tim regarding getting 1 tons of the top soil & sand mixture to do leveling. He was very nice listened to my issues with my grass and was extremally helpful. Since I was in Chicago near Midway Airport and the amount I needed was not enough, only a yard, he provided an alternative method to get the mix to my house. Rent a pick-up truck from Home Depot about for $20.00 and pick up myself. Great suggestion!! Please keep up the great videos.

Wow, unthinkable here in Europe. Nobody would take this much pride in their soil mix or lawn. Awesome! What a great business.

That’s what I’m talking about, George! You asked all the most important questions people have, had great video of the process and the professional to explain all the details. I don’t think anyone has made a comprehensive video like this. Bravo.

I live in the El Paso where we have sandy soil or straight sand in some cases. We have only a couple good places that do this kind of work but people are often afraid or too shy to ask for the best mixes for our area.

With the info in your video anyone should be able to confidently ask for the right mix no matter where you are. Kudos, man. I think I’ll give it another watch and save this one

Seen a good amount of your videos over the last 2-3 years and I have to say, this one was your best thus far with very useful info. Not as if your other ones were worthless but I learned a few things I needed to look out for better for my topsoil treatment project.

Damn - I'm a couple hours south in fort wayne but I'm half tempted to bring a truck all the way up there to get something that isn't full of sticks and random clumps of clay. Absolute pride in the product here is evident.

Tims business is a rare quality operation. No one with this attention to detail here in OK that I have found.

Love these guys, they are 5 mins from me, and I had them drop off 4 yards of material to do some major repairs in my lawn 2 summers ago. Great info in the video.

Awesome video George. I'm lucky enough to live around the corner from them. I'm there once a month for everything from seeds to plants. Tim and his staff are the best.
