I Got To Play Roland's 5 New Drumsets: Here Are My First Impressions

Roland just came out with five new drumsets, 3 TD17 modules, a new TD25KVX module, and the TD50KVX. I got a chance to play all of them. This video is a overview of all the new kits with brief playing examples. I'll be doing dedicated videos about the specific drumset later this week :)

Initial thoughts: The TD17 line is great and well priced. The TD25kvx is a bit expensive for the module it has, and the TD50KVX is probably the best all in one kit on the market right now, but it cost as much as a lambo ;)

Finally going to get my first drumset with the TD17 KVX and boy I’m glad I waited a couple of extra months. I gotta thank you for all of the inside info for helping me decide on waiting

Nice comparison. The price of the TD-25KPX has shocked me. You can almost get the TD-30K or even the new Pearl set for the same money. Besides, the TD-25KPX does not need stage presence as a module with no individual outputs is not made for the stage. And the price of the 22” kick drum is 1500 according to drum-etc. While the adapter costs only 350. Why should I not buy the adapter and a nice Pearl Bass drum and convert myself? The TD-17KVX is the best new release. I just filtered out everything from 1000-2000$ in terms of e-drum set and nothing can beat the TD-17KVX. This set will be a killer.

I got the alesis surge at first. I then realized electric drums opened a whole new world of creativity, coming from strictly acoustic for 15 years. Within one week I sent the surge back and got the td17kvx and never looked back.

In my area the td 17 kvx costs the same as a td 25 K. I really like the sounds on the td 17 module. But I like the pdx 100 feel of the pad more than the pdx 8/6. Wat is a better choice here I don't know... Do you?

Justin you’re the man. From a fellow buckeye now in CA, thank you SO MUCH for all the care and knowledge you’ve imparted on us. You’ve saved me a ton of missteps and money. Anyone who has dipped their toes into video production knows it’s not easy. I want for us the community to pay you and keep you going and objective rather than wait for the corps to gobble you up. How can we send you $$ or support you otherwise?

While touring from about 1988 to 1993, I used the Yamaha PTX-8 Digital Drums (state of the art, at the time). Boy, these new Roland kits are like a Quintilian steps up from those days!!

Justin, I’ve learned so much from your channel. I’ve went from an Alesis Nitro to an AtoE Sonor Select Force conversion and I plan to by the TD17 next month. You’ve made my move from my house to a townhouse much more tolerable. Thanks man!

I've watched a few of your videos while researching for a set for my daughter. You produce really high-quality, information-rich reviews. Much appreciated. Would love to see your review of the new TD-1DMK, in particular the simplified module vs those that come with the 11, 17, etc.

Thank you very much Justin for this video, I have been really looking at the TD 17KVX because of what I get at that price point and was waiting for you to make a video about it. Super informative and can't wait for your more in depth videos. Keep up the awesome work.

I needed a kit right between the TD11KV and the TD25KV. It's like roland knew what I wanted and needed

The high end TD50 is for drummers who make drumming their life, not just rich people. High end bicycles & golf clubs are really expensive too, as are many things. I see a lot of drummers saying they live & breathe drums but won’t make Drums their priority & wont spend $8k on Drums & will spend $30k on a car or sports truck. Drumming to me is my job, my passion, my lifetime commitment.. i never had money growing up so I had to work hard at crap jobs. So many drummers put price first.. I remember that I wanted a dw drum kit, took me so long to save up that the price changed a few times. Not the point because that’s what I wanted, not settle for an ok pdp instead.. I still have the dw & love it. Are you a hobby drummer or is drumming your life & you say you live & breathe Drums? That’s up to you to you & your priority & commitment..

Cool video! Great effort in visiting Roland in Ca. Very honest your expretions!

About the new line: The snare sensitivity and size is great. The latency issue that Rolland explain you is justifiable. Thanks for guide us! God bless Brother!

I saw some coverage of one of the td-17 models using a Randall May rack. Do you know if that is standard issue, limited run, or just for the press? Also, what are your opinions on that. My personal experience with Randall May equipment is that the alloy they use for the screws and bolts is really weak, and breaks easily. Do you know if they've fixed this for this model, or will it continue to be unreliable?
