The Karnataka government, on June 29, 2024, introduced the draft Karnataka Platform-based Gig Workers Welfare Bill, 2024 to protect the rights of platform-based gig workers and place obligations on aggregators. This is the second state after Rajasthan to create a law exclusively focused on the social security of gig workers in India. Gig worker unions and industry stakeholders have submitted their comments to the State government raising critical points about definitions, welfare funds, obligations of aggregator companies, and other gaps in the policy.
